08/1/2002 14:27 | it was nothing but an open secret that ebq had reaped a bumper profit this christmas. anyone who is anyone would be long on this stock in anticipation of todays results. the only way market makers can get their hands on stock is to panic the public into seling by dropping the price. remember also that market makers would have been short on the stock in order to satisfy the public's demand to buy this stock. therefore, the lower the price drops the more profitable it would be to the market makers. but this can only go on for very short perriods for a stock of such exceptional performance, few hours or days. after the said period the same market makers would start selling the stock they have collected from investors, but at an elevated price. the longer small investors hold out against panic selling the less they stand to loose to market makers. | melfaraj
08/1/2002 14:07 | someone's havin a laugh with this price drop!! | ashtonm2000
08/1/2002 13:47 | this is not the first time that this good stock is hammered for flimsiest excuses. last year at around november it had reached and exceeded the 70p mark only to see it go down 15% on one day on news of shortages of the ps2. the stock then took a nose dive to reach the 50p mark and then climbed up to some 130p. the market makers in the process, up and down, collected the stock cheap and sold it dear. they made a packet in the process. admittedly, today is a bad day for any retail stock, simply because the sector is down overall. in the end the tide generated by this stock can be kept at bay for so long. with a near 50% rise in profit it has one way to go, up! | melfaraj
08/1/2002 11:57 | Guppyworld, Most retail stocks are getting hammered today-all mine down about 5% today. Good trading statements this a.m by NXT & PEA-they are also down. Could well be down to worries that interest rate may be increased this week. Tony | tonyx

08/1/2002 10:14 | My view is that the fall is due to profit taking and a general markdown in the retail sector in general on the basis that it looks like the party will be over when good old Eddie sits down again at the next MPC meeting. | scripophilist

06/1/2002 19:00 | Drifting back a little in the last 3 days - tomorrow should be interesting in advance of Tuesday's (expected to be cracking) trading statement.... The Observer 6/1/02 : "A welter of retail trading statements this week will confirm that the British public spent billions of Christmas pounds on DVDs, computer games and clothes. The sparkling performer is tipped to be Electronics Boutique, the computer games retailer, which will post its half-year results on Tuesday. Analysts have pencilled in a 'stunning' like for like improvement of more than 30 per cent." | pinsticker
06/1/2002 15:55 | Look forward to positive words on Jan 8th - then a lean few weeks - I would expect the price to rise on the good news about christmas then slip back during feb/Mar - expect general trend upward this year - excellent stock | angus224466 |
