In the last 40 years there has not been a pandemic that all but stopped air travel - regardless of how many deaths and what causes. That is the current problem for EZJ.

How many thousands died of old age?

The NHS vaccinates old people for flu virus every winter but it does not stop them from dying. The fact is that of the last 40 years, 13 of them have had a worse mortality rate than the last one.

That is not how deaths are counted. That was the case early in the first wave on but eh error was identified and the individual casue of death data was re-checked for all covid related deaths and corrected. There was a decrease adjustment (over 1000 i think but not certain).

Poland and UK death rates are very similar but so much better in uk in recent weeks due to vaccine.
The 28 day rule probably gets numbers near to excess death figures so is a reasonable assumption.
However long Covid is an unknown quantity and could be a very significant health issue.

Spot on JoeStalin. And any other cause of death still gets counted as a Covid death as long as it’s within 28 days of a positive test, regardless of whether Covid actually caused the death or not. One would have thought everyone would be aware of this by now given how much it has been discussed over the last year, but obviously not in Cloudwatcher’s case. By the way, just checked on Worldometer and Poland has a significantly higher death rate per million than the UK. I’m not sure where you’re getting your data Cloudwatcher but I suspect it’s ‘user error’ on your behalf.

If someone in the UK tests positive for Covid-19 and, a few days later, they die in a car crash, they get counted as another death within days of being tested positive for Covid-19. Does that help?

Wrong again. The figures between Poland and the UK are very similar but Poland has not 'overtaken' the UK. Ideath per 525 people in Poland compared to 1 per 522 in UK. Please do elaborate on these loads of deaths which we count which are not covid?

But why reduce your exposure? Surely you remember telling everyone it’s all just scaremongering and the pandemic is over just 48 hours ago?! You really are a clown.

No, just reduced my exposure which, judging by the news this evening, seems to be another perfectly timed sell. Use that superior intelligence of yours…but I suspect you’ve just gone and bought in. Poor chap.

Cloudwatcher, rubbish - the death rate in Poland is now 1,896 per million of population; UK is 1,872. And the UK counts all sorts of deaths as Covid deaths that other countries don’t, so if anything we’re overstating not understating.

Eeerm I think you need to recheck your figures, Just looked at Poland and even adjusting for population size they are still some way behind in terms of number of deaths and I don't know if they fiddle their figures by refusing to count those who die more than 28days after a positive test. But why let facts get in the way of your narrative?

Reduced exposure on travel shares today for the next few months, to see how the increase in cases pans out in 14 days time onwards. Currently the cases are effectively zero of course, but I don't think the vaccines have caught up quite enough yet. When they have, or on the next significant raise I'm back in fully.

There seems to be certain type of person who supports the EU on just about everything.

75 years ago, these people would be receiving white feathers.

Porsche, I think you need to check the death rates, the UK has now been overtaken by loads of EU countries, with Poland, Hungary and Serbia being the latest to overtake us in the last few weeks.

@joestalin

Well they haven’t had the pressure to as they dont have the ludicrously high death rates and endless lockdowns basket case UK did/has.

Avoid the EU countries. They could not organise a vaccination in a million years.

Even if the Indian variant was 100 times greater (100,000 cases, imagine the headlines then!) that's still 0.1% of the population, which is basically zero. They're still scaremongering (variants of concern, vast increase, foreign travel, we're doomed!! etc etc) ahead of tomorrow to get those who can't think for themselves (or have superior intelligence) to get jabs and remain compliant. That's why bojo won't push back tomorrow. There's no logical reason to. Even the current UK wide cases are 0.07% (almost negative!) It'll go up obviously from Monday, but then come down with vaccinations to the point where it's simply another polio or smallpox. Until then, it's variant after variant after variant after variant news Zzzz and scarily worded headlines. Once Spain and France hit the green list people will start to realise it and the portfolio gets even better...until the next crash.
