26/2/2021 23:30 | tlobs - everyone, en masse, is stupid and ignorant. Why do you think pollution, corruption, greed, cruelty etc. exist? Because they are all human nature. Blaming people for general ills misses the point, in just the same way that the 2008 financial crisis was blamed on greedy bankers. Human nature needs to be controlled, or it runs riot. Do you honestly believe that New Zealand would've remained practically Covid-free if Jacinda hadn't acted early and decisively? Whether closing borders etc. is a practical solution is another matter, but it can't be denied that Kiwis, Chinese, Thais etc. have maintained a semblance of normal life based largely on their domestic economies. What does the UK goverment do? Puts a few people in hotel quarantine 11 months too late, when there is more Covid here than in most other countries. In fact, the farcical hotel quarantine system probably causes more virus spread than letting people go home to isolate. And if they don't isolate, whether having come from abroad or not, why might that be? Perhaps the fact that many cannot afford to, and don't get re-imbursed, is one reason. If you were on a zero-hours contract and you had a fever, would you go to work or let your family starve? These are blindingly obvious issues that the government just ignores, because they are either incompetent or are just pretending to do something. Test and trace is virtually useless when cases go over a few thousand a day, and yet it's been held up to be "world-leading". Give us a break! None of this is much good for Easyjet, of course, but the point remains the same: the UK has had one of the worst pandemic responses in the world. | taurusthebear
26/2/2021 10:03 | I never had you down as a rabid communist Taurus ;-) It's the stupid and ignorant people in the UK that have spread the virus not the Government. | tlobs2
25/2/2021 19:23 | Let me see, what consitutes a "great job" ? Could it be the record number of deaths for a country of the UK's size? Or maybe the 3 drastic lockdowns, brought about by a refusal to act early and decisively? Or maybe spending hundreds of billions of taxpayers money on these disasters, including contracts-for-mates, no accountability and no parliamentary or legal process? Yes, Boris has done a great job. Top class! No wonder the Jocks want out... | taurusthebear
25/2/2021 08:42 | once bitten1 you might not like Boris, however, he is British and can read and write. Try proof reading your posts before hitting the post button ;-) | tlobs2

23/2/2021 08:51 | EasyJet chief executive Johan Lundgren said: “We have consistently seen that there is pent-up demand for travel and this surge in bookings shows that this signal from the government that it plans to reopen travel has been what UK consumers have been waiting for. “The Prime Minister’s address has provided a much-needed boost in confidence for so many of our customers in the UK with demand for flights up 337% and holidays up 630% already compared to last week and beach destinations proving most popular for this summer.” He added: “While the summer may be a little while off, we will be working around the clock to ensure we will be ready to ramp up our flights to reconnect friends and family or take them on a long-awaited holiday to remember.” | tlobs2 |
