Valuation looks reasonable against both book value and earnings. Director's fees have gone up considerably I noticed but shareholder returns are healthy so I don't suppose you can complain too much about that.

you misunderstand, what I am saying is there will be further uplift - the sheep will pile in once the 'tipster' tips these; just like they are piling out now lol

No, I didn't lose anything I actually made a profit again
Happy with what I made and a third trade on it this year so the return reasonable
If you rely on any tipster to make your profit then that is your risk/reward
good luck with your investing

And at the current market cap any investor will be a Woodford when they realise that in a downturn they can't sell

Yep - asset light, people heavy, pro-cycillcial recruitment companies will be carnage in a recession (and maybe in a boom too) Interested in Duke at closer to a 10 yield Or when it is as diversified as a US BDC

that's a brave view. depending on the severity of the recession, duke could end up without a pot to p&ss in. if the investee companies go belly up, its hard to see how duke stays afloat

"a recession right now would probably wreck it"

- I'm looking forward to one to prove the model

yes results on monday. as for price predictions, i watch the numbers. key for me is the inclusion of the words "significant uplift", that should give rise to a re-rate. for as long as the royalty partners tick along smoothly, i think that duke have a really good shot at proving the business model and great things could come. a recession right now would probably wreck it, but then its a matter of being close to the exit

I am surprised at the adverse reaction to the recent RNS. Seems to me that with the Capital Step portfolio, DUKE have gained scale and reduced the impact of a problem with one partner - even though they have first ranking security in such an event.

So now they are improving the agreements that they adopted when they acquired the portfolio - makes sense to me.

My initial investment in DUKE was initiated after I met Neil Johnson and was impressed by his approach, which follows the successful model adopted by his former colleagues in USA and Canada. Can't see any reason to change that stance based on events to date .... and I'll keep collecting the 6.5% pa divis whilst awaiting the capital growth which I believe will also follow.

I would like to think that the lack of action (new investments) in the past 6 months has been associated with "cleaning up" the acquired Capital Step portfolio and bringing it more into line with existing investments.

Agreed the P&D investment does look out of kilter with the rest of the portfolio with the additional risk (now secured against the holding company) reflected in the 18% return.

Lets also not lose sight (pls correct me if I am wrong) that the typical return on the acquired portfolio was 16% as opposed to the 13% on existing Duke investments, so maybe 18% is not as out of kilter as it sounds?

Yes Recruitment is a "People" business and one either likes "people" businesses or not ... AFAIAC if it helps to broaden and diversify the investment portfolio and Duke think they understand the business and the investment will grow the business then I don't really have an issue.

I respect Graham Neary and think he writes some excellent stuff, his is the only real negative view I can find of the recent RNS ... it takes two views to make a market.

What I struggle with here is the nature of the businesses they've invested in Recruitment is a people business (obviously) with minimal assets, minimal barriers to entry - little to stop half the staff leaving and setting up own shop So struggling to see how this is a good credit This is compounded by the size of Duke and lack of diversification (not necessarily their fault - have to start somewhere) I love US BDCs and can see value in Dukes offering - but just struggling on credit
