18/11/2015 16:39 | Boffster - Didn't the govt just mess something up with Drax and the environment not so long ago because they wanted cheaper bills for the electorate? | she-ra
18/11/2015 15:41 | LiquidKid - The govt have just said they want gas. Comprendez? | she-ra
18/11/2015 14:40 | How on Earth did they let you loose with the money? | minerve
18/11/2015 14:31 | You are off topic - Drax is not about gas or nuclear. But I will add that the frackivists define gas as a fossil fuel so it is a political no go even for tories. Nuclear - don't know enough about that. Magic fairy dust & dragons - that's more like it. | liquidkid
18/11/2015 14:15 | Nobody is going to invest in anything unless the government stop changing the goal-posts every other year. Rudd goes on about under-investment in energy - you have been in government the last five years what have you done? Also, investors want to know whether we are in or out of Europe. All this mess is down to incompetent politicians dithering around Dave and their incoherent strategy. | minerve
18/11/2015 14:10 | LiquidKid - Ignore that Tory emblem tree. They want the Chinese doing nuclear and American companies fracking for gas in the UK. | she-ra
18/11/2015 13:23 | worth watching.... an upturn is inevitable..... | supasapi
18/11/2015 13:14 | And replaced with.... magical fairy dust | boffster
18/11/2015 12:42 | Todays news "The UK's remaining coal-fired power stations will be shut by 2025 with their use restricted by 2023, Energy Secretary Amber Rudd has proposed" | nick rubens
18/11/2015 12:04 | Wonder if they came up with this policy at the behest of the American fracking companies and the Chinese. | she-ra
17/11/2015 12:52 | New Finance director seems to think so... | zcaprd7
16/11/2015 13:09 | thanks for the opinion rburtn - makes sense :) | glennrcharles
16/11/2015 12:49 | Is their any point owning Drax shares if they have no or very little profitability forecast in the years ahead and even possible losses liabilities to come. I've never read of any headcount reduction during the years of profitability and dividend decline? | nick rubens
11/11/2015 21:55 | Believe you me, the way earth's temperature is regulated is by the amount of water vapour in the air - warmer earth, more vapour, more cloud, more high altitude radiation from raindrops, more reflection of incoming radiation - classical negative feedback system producing phenomenal stability. It's all down to water. Greenhouse gas effect is total absolute claptrap otherwise water vapour would do for us what GHG's are supposed to only in spades. If earth was sensitive to 500 ppm of CO2, the chances it would not have had runaway heating many times over in its history are negligible. Climate is changing because in excess of 1% of earth's surface has seen the replacement of verdant soil, marshland etc with drained urban/industrial development. Net result, artificially reduced vapour content, mostly northern hemisphere. We see the urban heat island effect every night on our weather forecasts. This energy is therefore displaced to polar region by prevailing wind systems. It is not rocket science. One can understand society's sheep repeating the CO2 chant but how come scientists of any repute put their names to it? | rburtn
11/11/2015 12:41 | I always struggle to understand why Woodford invested here, as has been mentioned about profits and divis have been declining for years. I remember first looking at this about 2 years ago and not being able to get my head around the valuation vs profits and divi. The government is playing a very dangerous game at present with the electricity market and as a result the country is close to brown outs. I am all for using market forces to drive efficiency but we are now in a position where the country will be liable for huge fines for not meeting our renewable energy obligations and we may have to use hugely polluting and relatively inefficient diesel generators to fill in supply gaps. I see little more downside here but equally I cant see any reason to invest. | salpara111
11/11/2015 09:18 | Fanghorn Yes the budget decision, leaving Drax exposed with it's expensive Biomass investment. I just don't what Drax can do to survive unless the other generators suffer serious rising gas prices and all the domestic bills surge again. There will be very little, if any profitability ahead IMO. Does anyone know of any forecasts for the years ahead? | nick rubens
10/11/2015 16:29 | @Nick, You're in good company getting caught out - :) Woodford for example... Who was to know the British Govt would leave it out in the cold ...such that we 're now paying way over the odds (£95/Kwh) for China to build our new nuclear power stations. We seem to consistently put loonies into number 10, whichever political persuasion they be. | fangorn2 |
