29/3/2004 09:12 | Olie.....It certainly could be the $$grabber - I jus can't undertsand for the life of me why the thread wasn't a roaring success. I mean after all, all it req'd was, 'time to top up on Tadpole as I hear news is due very soon, the MMs are desperately short of stock and are playing games to keep it off the leader board. £9 by Easter.' Simple really. | tanners

28/3/2004 19:49 | Dear mashman, Not being legally trained, nor being on ADVFN's legal counsel, I am not in the position to provide a statement that is legally binding as I am sure you can understand. However, I believe that my posting is truthful and to the best of my operational working knowledge of ADVFN's policies; this is indeed how we conduct business relating to the release of personal information under the guidelines of the DPA. Regards, James | chiversj
28/3/2004 16:55 | Copy from Chivers post above, "ADVFN will not release personal information of our customers over the phone, fax, via email, etc. to anyone - under any circumstances - except at the request of a court of law applying for such." and then, "this posting may not necessarily reflect the views of ADVFN or our own legal counsel." If i am reading this wrong then i'll get my coat but it looks like a good hedge to me. | mashman
27/3/2004 21:00 | Dear zzaxx99, As a customer of ADVFN, your personal details are protected under the Data Protection Act. To view our submission to the DPR, please see the following link: Or visit the main DPR Search page and type 'advfn' into the 'Name' field and click search: As a Data Controller, we have to detail what type of information we hold, who we hold it on, and what we do with this information, and make our policy publically available. ADVFN will not release personal information of our customers over the phone, fax, via email, etc. to anyone - under any circumstances - except at the request of a court of law applying for such. Let me try and illustrate this with an example: If a person posted serious defamatory remarks against another party, that party may request the alleged offender's personal details from ADVFN (in order to press legal action against said individual). In order for the prosecutors to obtain the alleged offender's details from ADVFN, we require court action to be applied against us, forcing us to release this information. ADVFN take the protection of our customer's personal information very seriously - and when requested to release information from legal representatives, our policy is to refuse to release said information without being forced to do so in court. I'm sure many organisations would simply release information based on the pressure of a prosecuting lawyer's initial correspondence to them, but we refuse to do so, and under the Law, do as much as legally possible not to release personal details, unless ordered to by a court. I hope this answers your questions on this serious subject - please bear in mind that I am not legally trained, nor act as a legal representative of ADVFN and this posting may not necessarily reflect the views of ADVFN or our own legal counsel. Regards, James | chiversj |
