SYNT interim divi declared 4p today....about half of last years of 8p. So expect the final to be about 10-12p (my guess!) (Final was 21p)... So forward yield of around 6.5% hopefully.

Thanks for the additional numbers. Just be careful with the yield for SYNT, last years divi was exceptional, not sure it'll be as good again. I still hold though, to see what the interims bring.

RIO today make a cut but LLOY make an increase.
I guess by having a couple of quality companies in each sector there is a good chance us dividend hunters will still do ok and be ahead of the FTSE 100 as an average where dividends are concerned.

Hi Aleman. I hold two of those.

CSN has been predictable for years, hefty 8% dividend yield and pretty safe for that for the next 2-3 years at least. Share price around 275-300p has hardly moved though in the last 2-3 years (covid and Ukraine invasion dips excepted) during which I have held it (also held it about a decade ago for decnt results). Used to trade higher, I think it might head that way in the future...

SYNT is a newish stock for me. Seems oversold and that has created a chunky 5.1% yield where one would normally expect a more modest one. Chemicals seems a bit out of favour for various understandable reasons, but recovery could add a very useful capital gain (perhaps up to 100%).

Please DYOR of course.

smidge21 -

I've just been pointed to this thread earlier today from the MNG thread. I've only managed to skim the last few months of post but noticed this one;

Other passes were BATS(got), CSN, CLIG, RMG, IMB, IPF (now got)

Can I ask why you passed on CLIG? I've held a few for a couple of years, but today was the first time mine entered negative territory. Before being drawn down the rabbit hole of averaging down, I'd appreciate some insight as to why you were wary.

TIA

MCRO interim dividend falls slightly to 8 cents but the current strong exchange rate sees the 6.42p sterling dividend set to increase marginally. A similar situation for the final would see a FY dividend around 22p for shares now under 300p after a heavy fall this morning that comes despite a large debt reduction on free cashflow up over 1/3rd. Consensus is for a slightly increasing dividend to 2024 as debt/EBITDA falls from 4 to 3. It fell from 4.0 to 3.7 in this 6 months.

IGV looks very risky but has paid out some good dividends in the past. If you get interested in such risky vehicles you should spread your cash thinly. I've looked at similar in the past and thought other stuff is risky enough.

Incidentally I bought some ALAI today. Most exposure is to Brasil but the Real has been weak for years and markets fell so it might be a better time to buy while noting it is still a bit riskier than some markets. (Brasil historic average P/E around 13-14 but now 8.9.) Countering that possibly, or at least spreading risk, there is quite a bit of bond or convertibles exposure to other Latin American markets. The yield is around 6.5%+. There was talk of a possible dividend cut if volatility continued in Latin American currencies and markets but the stronger Real this year has possibly seen off most of that risk.

Anyone have any thoughts on IGV?

No worthwhile comments apart that it pays a decent divi later in the year and it might be worth substantially more than its current sp

although thats the case for many shares these days

good luck

Good value at the moment is SYNT going Ex-div paying 21p on 1/6/22.

Do some research, you should like it, well under valued on fundamentals and in a very good market position. I hold in my portfolio.

FWIW, I bought SNWS as a value-cum-yield play this week. The yield COULD be as high as 8.7% at 34.5p, and should be a minimum of around 5% depending on what is said with the interims on Wednesday. Last year's divi puts the shares on a yield of 4.34%, whilst 2018's would be 28% :-) Of course, the share price was then over a quid.

This is a very cheap share on conventional earnings metrics with a probable P/E of around 3, and a PCF ratio of less still, but that's because it operates in an industry that is deemed to be in terminal decline (mainly the wholesale distribution of newspapers and magazines). So to my mind, the only reason to buy is the hope of a sustainable high yield - which I think I will get. I think the decline of print journals must be as low as it's going to get, but what do I know!?

Anyway, it's risky and it may be wiser to wait to see what is said on Wednesday if anyone is interested, but I bought just 20k shares at 34.5p in hopes of a 3p divi this year or next, which I'm hoping will finance one of my 52 weeks of each year moving forward - as I have limited needs :-)
