This acquisitive company is snapping up cheap assets – investors should do the same with its shares

Questor share tip: Diploma has bought a string of businesses without jeopardising its financial strength

Well given the mega interest here I have checked current valuations and Diploma is currently 90th in the FTSE at £4,297.1m market cap, and JOhnson Matthey the worst FTSE 100 member at £3,338.9m. It's not quite so straightforward as Hikma has a higher market cap and is also FTSE 250. but automatic entry should follow if Diploma hold the 90th position. I have been adding since the investor pres and I think DPLM is now my highest % of my portfolio

I think it’s basically frowned upon to not offer it to retail investors via PB now. It’s exceptionally easy for the company and fast.

I regularly buy into companies via PB, normally to flip shares for a few % or sometimes hold longer if I like the look of it.

I’m new to Diploma but bought some via PB (no idea how much yet!) as I liked the stable share price, encouraging recent results, and seemingly smart acquisition strategy.

Ultimately as retail investors, we’re small fry and being able to buy on the same terms as the big boys is nice.

It's a suspiciously round number and, I suspect, all they made available to "retail investors". It's really just a token gesture to show they are interested in smaller/PI investors but to my mind it shows just the opposite and they might as well not bother.

Having gone through the rigmarole of registering, I, too, discovered that the offer had already closed. I used to really, really, really hate them, but now I really, really, really, really hate them!

I saw on the App that they can't sell directly to an ISA but you have to buy in your unsheltered trading account and then 'Bed&ISA' into your ISA assuming you already have the funds available there.

I can understand why a company would use PB because for them it is extremely quick, cheap and avoids a lot of faffing about and uncertainty. My beef as an existing investor is that it effectively cuts me out of any 'Rights', treating me just the same as any retail punter, so although they pay lip service to the interests of their shareholders, they actually treat us just the same as any old Joe.

I still like Diploma but this really sticks in my craw, not that they care, I suppose, and fully expect them to go on using this method in the future. Grrr!

I really, really, really hate PrimaryBid as a way for serious investors to transact with their company. I have built a significant holding here and am more than willing to subscribe for a rights issue or other fundraising. This process does not differentiate between existing shareholders and anyone else and is a bit tuppenny-halfpenny involving debit cards and the like which may not be appropriate for substantial sums. I can understand that the company wants speed and certainty, but it hardly engages with their existing shareholder base (at least, not PI's).

Tipped by the Telegraph's Questor today.

Well what an effin' swizz! The offer is closed now anyway. An announcement after the market closed last night followed by a swift closure this morning. The offer wasn't even to existing shareholders but any member of the public who hit the App button quickly enough.

"the Company values its retail investor base and wants to give those shareholders an opportunity to participate in the Company's equity fundraising, alongside other investors."

Yeah, right.

As a long-term shareholder, I am not happy.

Don't think they have that many private investors Jeffian - probably think it's too boring but that's fine by me.
Good to see the organic growth tick up to 3% from the 2% in their pre-close, the return to net cash should be helpful for acquisitions too. Then there's the reference to US infrastructure spending and a potential upturn in seals if there's an OPEC deal.
Finally, they've only had 3 months benefit of the lower exchange rate so far. Overall there's quite a lot to go for when I think about it at the moment.
