Quietly encouraged by the DFS Trading Update this morning.. Hope there is nothing in it that can be perceived as detrimental to the already low price level anyway.

I doubt it diku. From memory it's been going for 40+ years now.

I wonder if they ever sold anything full-price? (That would be the next mis-selling scandal)

Can't see any reason why punters would buy sofas now most are Maxed out on credit and still paying for summer holidays. Grim outlook, these will fall further imho.

Better play DEB at least it's turned up off the lows.

It appears almost a badge of honor to talk about new space added.

Huge losses. share price will go below 200p today IMO.

Wrong on both counts.

andysaw. There is no loss. I'm guessing English is not your first language.

The figures were somewhat below expectation, that's all. No reason for a share price plunge.

And everyone seems to be reporting that weakness. I'm starting to think that the UK is already in recession. Company results are a good lead indicator for economic data.

20% loss in profit is not huge for you

aim, would agree re. the sofology acquisition, however not on
numerous new store openings. Focus should be on maximising returns from existing outlets.
No position atm.

Short here - operational gearing will look unpleasant in reverse. Reliant on an over extended consumer even without more of a slow down. Pretty goods odds for lights out under a bad brexit scenario.

2018 is going to be harder than this year so I see no reason to buy.

The second half maybe x 2 gives us next years numbers?
That is if the fall off has stabilised?

the acquisition of sofology sounds like a very good idea, and the debt refinancing. DFS is going to come out the other side of this economic downturn stronger and better positioned, but current trading really isn't good. If this downturn worsens or continues for the rest of this year or longer, we could have another warning. I will consider adding for the long term below 200

What strikes me is the emphasis on new space addition.

Is this the time in the cycle to add significant new space?.

I don't think it is, just imv only.

Is it all doom then?...

Think stats will be tweaked to keep rates low for longer to counteract the debt binge...unless of course if one of the western currency collapses...BOE have snookered themselves keeping rates low for so long keeping the economy afloat with the aid of QE in the process property prices have gone to the moon in a relatively short period...

for those that are interested go to ennismore website (they wrote a thesis on dfs in april) it details why it might be worth a punt. Ennismore are shrewd operators imo. Obviously they got it wrong near term but nonetheless provides a cogent argument why it might be worth a punt. I have punted this am as a result!
