Exports Surge On Chinese Demand Growing Chinese Demand Helps Devro Exports To Surge SAUSAGE skin maker Devro unveiled a rise in sales during the first quarter, as export growth made up for a slow start to the year in its domestic market. Steve Hannam, chairman of the Moodiesburn-based firm, told investors at its annual general meeting that eastern Europe, Japan, Latin America, Russia and south-east Asia were "all demonstrating solid growth". Hannam described trading conditions in the UK as "slow", but added that sales of the company's up-market "Select" range of collagen products – which replace sheep gut in premium sausages – had increased in Europe and Japan. He added: "Manufacturing performance was slightly below expectations early in the year, but recent performance is much improved. "The newly installed lines in Scotland are in full production and product development work continues on the new line in the US." Replacing older machines at its factory in Bellshill helped Devro to post a 22.4 per cent rise in profits before exceptional items to £43 million in 2011, on the back of a 6.6 per cent increase in turnover to £227.7m. Devro, which employs more than 2,100 people, is also installing more efficient equipment at its facility in the Czech Republic. Chief executive Peter Page said: "The continued growth in volume and value of sales, across a wide variety of markets, is most encouraging and reflects well on our strategy for long-term growth." Devro and its peers have enjoyed rising sales in China and other developing markets in south-east Asia as the growing middle-classes spend more money on processed meat. The firm sells cases made from collagen, the same material that makes up the connective tissue found in all mammals, which is designed to replace sausage skins made from animal guts. Sold my last lot of these yesterday. Have been holding for a while now and originally bought in at 160p. I still think they're a great company but the run has been really good of late, and i do wonder how much further they can push up? Still, what do i know. Would certainly look to get back in on a big dip.

a few like this I am watching possibly to short Phil where I have sold thinking they are well up with events and hey ho they just keep rising . DVO , BRSN are a just a couple I am watching. Dangerous to short anything in this market but I do think markets are pricing in a reasonably strong recovery as opposed to astabilisation and very gradual growth. US may be recovering fast but Far East seems to be flat to low growth and there is little growth around europe in my view. Greece is still messed up and so are several others in europe which is going to cause more grief. Iran is a wild card. Just my thoughts but I feel like it will be a sell in May and come back on St ledger day for sure this year.

I must say I am quite resentful that Questor told me to sell these and I listened.

Well, I'm out for the time being :) A great company (and one which I will buy again on any weakness) but for the time being looks fully valued in my eyes. I still intend to follow this thread so you're not completely rid of me just yet! Best, XB

Bogota; I must say I'd be (pleasantly) surprised if 330p+ was hit. Devro moves quite slowly and given results merely nipped in ahead of expectations, this price does seem relatively fair for the time being (even slightly toppy when one considers the PE multiple). Anyway, happy to hold and watch :) XB

I've set a mental (short term) target of 320p at which point I'd like to take profits. No biggie if it doesn't drift that far, this isn't exactly a risky stock :)

Could've sworn it was £4 or £5 in the nineties, didn't think this was an all-time high as Questor says.

mm - it is indeed. Brokers seem to say otherwise (I'm not sure how he reached an average TP of 305p). Still, I feel this share offers decent stability so I'm happy to hold for the time being. XB
