niggle,

I am happy buying this at present valuation, I am a latecomer here so not bothered with ST's past predictions, he's a stuck record however. I avoid people like him at all costs, the bores of the earth, just looking up negative stuff to prove a point over and over again, YAWN, WHO CARES!

Simon whatnot is a loser in every way in my book, let him play with his retail apocalypse set to his heart's content! He can furnish his doll's house from all the firms in administration for all I care.

Maybe the Chairmans actions are a buy recommendation that should be considered.

Hargreaves Lansdowne gloomy on Debs...

HL expects sales to get worse due to consumer sentiment negative.

edit:

Nick Bub says consumers will shut up shop in New Year following buying spurge before Christmas.

Debenhams wont be selling much furniture for a while what with large discounts on Multiyork in administration...

As for electrical, Currys, John Lewis, COOP, AOL and many others will claim to be the cheapest around.

Debenhams is walking on a fine line now because of its high fixed costs. A 2-3 fall on sales now when the company continues to discount could mean the company goes into loss.

What is worse is company now in its weakest period. With consumers set to tighten their belts I find it hard to accept sales will not continue their downturn.

Bucher may have some good ideas but he is dealing with a Supertanker and it will be difficult to turn around that is why Debenhams is being heavily shorted.

Anyone who buys now at the present price may see 20 pence not long off.

Article from last year when Sergio was appointed, give him some time as this guy could turn the business round, it is still profitable and online sales are growing fast, so the transformation could be dramatic.

'Debenhams sees its future on the web. ‘Sergio's wealth of e-commerce expertise, international experience and clear leadership qualities stood out,’ said chairman Sir Ian Cheshire. ‘I am confident we have the best possible person to realise the potential of "new Debenhams" as a leading international multi-channel retailer with a bright future.’

Nothing like a little optimism. Unfortunately, John Lewis realised the importance of being ‘multi-channel’ years ago, which means Debenhams - and M&S, which also has a new boss in Steve Rowe - have some catching up to do. At least they (probably) don’t have to worry about BHS, eh.

Bucher may be the man to lead Debenhams into a new online era, but he also brings a strong pedigree in European fashion retail – he had a long career at Zara-owner Inditex, Nike and Puma, where he was European general manager. Whether he can replicate the success of those much-loved brands at Debenhams remains to be seen.

In any case, surviving for decades in the catty world of fashion – and indeed at Amazon, which is not exactly known for being a soft and cuddly place to work – will serve Bucher in good stead when negotiating with the likes of Mike Ashley, Debenham’s enigmatic investor and concession-holder.

There is one other string to Bucher’s bow that could come in handy – and it’s made out of Lycra. Before he joined Inditex, Bucher had the superlative job title ‘Marketing Communications Manager, Lycra –Europe’ for DuPont. Could the leotard be making a mainstream comeback, with a Debenhams twist? Keep watching the shelves.'

I see shorts are getting the blame for an outdated business model badly executed by investors who have no comprehension of debt or operational gearing and who willingly bought a pup from private equity. Perhaps people who live within 10 miles of a DEB store should be forced to shop there so they don't have to slash prices to shift the inventory they overbought? Should Primark have to pay a special "keep Debenhams alive tax"? IMO the only reason not to be all in short DEB is that House of Fraser might go belly up first and it is the Chinese who take the losses, as well as the people who unfortunately lose their jobs.

fox well done for selling then, I am a relative newbie here, down a few hundred that's it.

Shame you don't learn from your past and sell ZIOC before you lose your profits!

I added, as a takeover even at 50p that would be a 70% premium from here.

Ashley has something on his mind, he's looking at the future of retailing and to have this empire as a starting block, with all the best spots for starters, is a massive head start.

I actually bought some stuff online yesterday, a couple of frying pans lol and some other kitchen stuff, incredible value and quality range, I was pretty impressed!
