04/1/2018 14:45 | Simon Templar, Congratulations on being spot on here. Think with some job cuts, a divi cut or drop the divi altogether DEB will be around for a while yet. Still a bleak outlook for 2018. When will the headwinds ease ? Seems a million miles away at present. Had my first trades in DEB for a while. Even found myself long this morning ;-) | american idiot

04/1/2018 13:21 | After the sharp share price reaction some will speculate that Debenham, whose stock market value is now down to just £440m, may now be a takeover target. | qantas
04/1/2018 13:20 | Regarding the operational gearing argument, my two cents is that without this huge 2.3BN turnover they aren't going to be able to buy as competitively, if they go to a leaner model the risk is that the profit gets cannibalised by reduced buying power. The fact all their stores are profitable indicates that the problem is more structural. No idea what the answer is sadly. Perhaps they should have got together with Argos? Or someone with a lot more buying power could take them over. I think it needs a dramatic solution or the weak balance sheet will see the whole thing unravel. Simon well done m' learned friend, perhaps it's a case of 'no further questions your honour' for now. | ltcm1

04/1/2018 12:41 | It's operational gearing, it gives the turnover reduction, which may appear modest, a multipler type effect. And it's not just a case of shutting up shop, as some of the legacy long lease liabilities may be costly to terminate. | essentialinvestor
