Press gloomy about current retail sales as retailers discounting earlier than normal, they are now calling "Black Friday" to be a "Slack Friday".

John Lewis ...seems to be trying too hard

Do like the Marks slogan "Spend it Well"

Experts saying last week that the Christmas Ads bring in millions of extra sales ... me being an old cynic don't quite see that.
Lewis Ad cost £7 million apparently.
The Ad Agencies must love it.
My wife has finished her Christmas shopping already, or so she says , so it will not make a blind bit of difference to us.

I do agree the Debenhams advert is about one of the best but I also like the Marks, Lidl and Aldi ads.

I don't rate the John Lewis add this year.

"Due to warner Autumn stores have piles of woollies and coats to get rid of and clerical items not been selling."

Blimey when the Pope and the CofE are feeling the pinch we know the economy is in trouble.

Retailers are in panic mode as sales have already started before Black Friday and are slashing priced, which will erode margins.

Due to warner Autumn stores have piles of woollies and coats to get rid of and clerical items not been selling.

Retail spend to get even weaker...

If that is not enough the EU has downgraded 2018 to measly growth GDP growth of 1.3 and even worse at 1.1% in 2019

The UK could even go into recession.

With these poor forecasts I see a major high street chain going under.

Bricks and clicks with destination stores that are and have brand awareness like MTC, who have international presence, from focusing on their niche sector, stand to outshine general mixed product retailers, as speciality is the name of the game, is where I see possible future retail gains.

No one said all buying will be online but a lot of it was.

As for banks well look how many have shut down over the years.

I don't buy into the view that shops are finished and all buying will be online. It's a fad and the sheep are panicking and driving retail shares to bargain prices. We heard it all before when innternet banking started, all the banks were slashed and Prudentials Egg held up as the inevitable future. Yeh, right.

Why are you asking ST? if he was a proper investor he wouldn't be spending time commenting on stock he has no intention of owning. He is an arm chair commentator, a told you so wind up merchant. You find them on many boards.

Not gloating at all, I have been warning consistently for months and months things would get worse for all bricks and mortar retailers its just getting more and more competitive every day.

Something has to give some retailers will hit the wall.

All I am doing is pointing out which ones are most at risk.
