Dan Nickols head of strategy, Jupiter’s UK small and mid-cap team

STOCK PICK: DE LA RUE (DLAR)I am optimistic about De La Rue going into 2022. I think this company is misunderstood by the market – the perception is that as a producer of banknotes, its future will be negatively impacted by the switch to cashless payments.

This view ignores the global perspective, where banknotes remain the main form of exchange, particularly for largely unbanked populations.

Moreover, there will be a powerful shift towards the use of polymer banknotes and De La Rue is a global leader in this space.

The company also has expertise in so-called authentication products which, for example, protects brand owners against counterfeit goods.

The business is under strong new management who have delivered a successful turnaround and the balance sheet is sound. Despite this, the shares (based on consensus forecasts, which we consider to be realistic) trade on a lowly price to earnings multiple of 9.1 for the year ending March 2022, falling to 7-times for March 2023. As the company delivers against these forecasts, an
upwards rerating should follow.

Thanks zho.

I personally hate this company, 100pc fully busy doing its thing, new orders queuing up, but the Crystal Amber overhang wont allow any forward movement.

Patience dear boy, holding at 151p average seemingly forever:{

Nibbled a few here.

I wanted it cheaper down at 140p. The opportunity to buy some cheaper could still arrive, but watching the action here today, I can see someone is gobbling up blocks of 250k (this is further to the 1m and just over 1m block bought up in the 140's). Judging by all recent comments, the sellers on the end of these transactions can't be Crystal Amber.

The worry is that they might be the big sellers mentioned in the post above who have been sat as a wall at price points around 148p-150p. That could mean a pop higher and not being able to buy in the 140's again too.

So taken a few just in case.

It is clearly a case of wanting shares as cheap as possible but also trying to not miss out too!

So hedged somewhat on that front.

All imo

Gargoyle, DLAR is a printing company which specializes in printing currency and printing authentication processes.

Thats all it is. Same as any factory or office.

Even the full national lockdown didnt stop the presses, in fact production remained near 100pc capacity.

Volvo, you've made that comment before -- about Omicron having no effect, but your comments seem to focus on the Currency business which, given the commnets made by Vacher in the investor presentation about potential impact on Authentication, doesn't tell the whole picture. You still haven't addressed that, thanks.

Sphere, well summed up re CA.

On Omicron, no effect here, presses still running at 100pc capacity 24 7.

Vacher and Loosemore know they have a winner, just increase polymer capacity by 130pc, and authentication by 25pc in 2022, and watch the cash roll in

Hi Volvo, What do you mean by "L2"? In your message before you said "seems". I can't tell whether that is your interpretation of the chart or whether you had seen the interview I was referring to.

VOLVO 9 Dec '21 - 11:22 - 1843 of 1845 Edit

It seems that the offer for the Crystal Amber stake is 140p and they want 180p....surely near a compromise

In a PI World interview with Andy Brough from about 48hrs ago, Andy mentions how Crystal Amber have a large stake and their brokers are looking to sell at 180p, while Schroders are looking to buy at 140p and don't have a deadline, unlike the seller. Makes a lot of sense in the context of our discussions of the last circa 4mths and also November's share price chart. Volvo, from your post, not sure if you saw it or not!

Needless to say....if a deal brokered at say 147/150p for CA stake, then the share price rerates almost immediately and with estimates for next year in the 6/7pe area and growth guaranteed.
