Dart Energy negotiates US$100 mln loan facility for international arm

"Dart Energy's (ASX:DTE) international arm has set up a new loan facility with HSBC to fund the development of its global portfolio of coal bed methane and unconventional gas projects.

The facility will comprise a senior secured revolving loan of up to US$100 million composed of a borrowing base tranche of up to US$90 million and a US$10 million working capital tranche."

John McGoldrick, Dart's chief executive, added: "We are pleased with the vote of confidence in our business and assets that the HSBC mandate represents.
"The debt facility, together with the proceeds of other previously announced corporate fund raising activities, we believe will provide us with greater financial strength and flexibility and will ensure that we are well positioned to execute on our objective to become a leading global unconventional gas producer".

If the development of coal bed methane specialist Dart Energy (ASX:DTE) is anything like its former parent company, then investors are in for quite a ride.
Dart was spun out of Arrow Energy in the summer of 2010 ahead of Arrow's US$4 billion takeover by Shell and PetroChina – and it is an object lesson in value creation.

Good news for Datong:

Press Release

25 January 2012

DATONG PLC

("DATONG" or "the Company")

Result of Patent Litigation

DATONG PLC (DTE.L), a leading provider of covert intelligence gathering solutions, announces that, further to previous announcements that DATONG has been subject to a patent infringement claim, the Court of Appeal has judged that the patent in suit is invalid.

Since 2006, the Company has been a party to court proceedings in which MMI Research Limited ("MMI") alleged that a Third Party product for which the Company acts as a reseller infringes the UK element of a patent that MMI jointly owns. The proceedings were brought against the Company's supplier and the Company (the "Defendants") by virtue of its reselling activities.

The judgment was delivered by the Court of Appeal on 24 January 2012 who held that the patent in suit is invalid. The patent will be revoked and no damages will be payable by the Defendants under the claim.

As disclosed in the Company's annual report and accounts, a provision for £0.30 million is currently being carried in respect of the expected share of costs and damages to be borne by the Company for the sums that may have ultimately become payable. As a result of the judgment, damages will not be payable by the Company. The court has still not ruled on the amount of costs that will be payable by either the claimant or the Defendants and a further hearing may be required to determine the amount of costs. In the event that the Company is required to pay any costs at all, these are expected to be substantially lower than the level of the provision.

Paul Lever, Non-executive Chairman of DATONG commented: "We are delighted with the outcome of the judgment of the Court of Appeal today. There are no restrictions on DATONG's ability to sell any of these Third Party products into our chosen markets and the judgment removes any lingering doubt that may have existed. The Company looks forward to continued success from this area of the business."

I suspect it is something a lot more straightforward....he's had a job offer elsewhere.

I have always thought the relationship between Dean Blood and his Chairman was rather bizarre. Brian Smith (Non-Exec Chairman), who was previously CEO, seemed to have a far more prominent role in the companies direction and strategy than Dean. It looked more like Dean was being groomed for the CEO role - but never quite trusted with it.

Perhaps things came to a head: he was unable to manage the company how Brian wanted and inevitably ended up with Dean looking elsewhere.

Will be interesting to see who they get to fill the shoes now - perhaps the "amazing" new Group Sales Director is the one they have in mind...

Clearly the Chief Exec packing his bags has had a very negative effect on the price. Can't help but think that there must be some association with News Intl saga, oh well........

Yes, i think you sum it up well, it will take time before the market becomes really tuned into DTE again. However, given the lowly market cap, the sound balance sheet, increasing margins and the low PER i would have thought at some point the shares will catch on.

Results do look quite encouraging. They have laid the "difficult working conditions" issues on with a trowel - and you just don't know how difficult things really are - but the moves into Eastern Europe and other sales areas look like they could deliver real benefits.

They have lost UK sales for their 3rd party products which will be a hit - but the growth of sales in their own product line is delivering better margins and appears to be more sustainable.

When companies lose the respect of the market it can take years to recover. That unfortunately is the situation DTE are in. However, as you say, PER is now looking very low and a good point to start building a position. Overall, though, I feel they need another year before the market really starts believing they are on track to become a decent long term growth company.

Solid interim results, in line for the full year with EPS of 5p at the half way stage. The forward PER of 6 is very cheap and a considerable discount to peers. Prospects for the future look sound enough too.

Yes,a bit of buying today, maybe the forthcoming results, or perhaps as you say something going down. Whichever, look decent value on the expected numbers.

bit perky today - some buying interest ahead of results, tipsheet coverage or is there some deal going down?

Interims out at the end of the month and if Canaccord's update of last month is near the mark, the shares should push on again. EPS has been raised from 3p to 8p for this year which would give a PER of 6! with 9.3p up from 9p for 2012.
We don't get a great deal of newsflow here, but interesting that the Comapany will be briefing analysts after those results.

Sorry for the off topic guys.

As you can tell from my posts on here spaceparallax, hastings etc..., I am quite bullish about the medium/long-term prospects for Datong. They have a good business model - have suffered a little from recent changes in direction - but are apparently back on track to deliver shareholder value.

One other company I am invested in that is a little bit further down that same track, has enjoyed 40% compound growth over the last 5 years, has pretty much completed the process of developing their business for a much larger market and is now on the verge of what I anticipate to be explosive growth is Brainjuicer (BJU). A completely different type of company but one that you may want to check out.

They announce their 2010 FY results today so expect a small amount of froth.

I have just started a thread there though have built up a substantial position over the last 3 years. I won't be selling for a long time yet though and you will find out why if you do your research. An amazing, values-driven company that really is looking like it will break the mould in the world they inhabit.

I don't share tips generally, but seeing as I would value any that you guys offered - and we are the only ones that are here (no flash harry types) - I felt I should share this one - because they really have WOWed me this morning (as they have done for each of the last 3 years).
