No, current cash position is £1.1m as stated by JC in there. And I take it that 'current' means at period end not as everyone would expect to mean as - at the date of the message (that's today for your benefit multi). So, probably a lot closer to the next placing, or rather, convertible loans to the benefit of powlett-jones. Anyway, looks like the market has seen thru the king of smoke and mirrors again.

15 month results for the period ended 31 March 2020 announced today. Revenues lower than expected (no surprise here). However, a number of positives to indicate a stronger future and revenues in the year to come. Current cash position around £1.3m (mentioned in John's presentation below) and monthly operating costs down to £245k. Very creditable that CYAN have not been back to raise funds in the market for almost 2 years now. 70k units paid for/shipped since end March 2020, if I heard/understood it correctly - so very decent progress notwithstanding the Covid pandemic. Hi multibagger,After being focussed elsewhere, I am updating on how things are progressing at CC. A few days ago you posted "From a revenue model perspective, we now also have an Opex model on offer, which negates the high upfront capex costs.....". .Sounds like a real potential breakthrough - can you please advise what mechanism this is and how it's being financed - was it included in the recent JC presentation? Many thanks, tightfist

Courtesy of and many thanks to Vascular on the other thread. Indore is the flagship project and the largest smart meter deployment to date for CYAN in India and provides the RF Mesh technology which has been deployed. Https://powerline.net.in/2020/05/06/smart-metering-experience/

Further problems for EESL (a public sector competitor to CYAN) ....who secured some "big" smart meter contracts, but execution of these multimillion meter contracts have been plagued with a number of historical and ongoing issues. Could this financial policy tweaking help quicken the smart meter roll out in India ? Https://www.dnaindia.com/business/report-cabinet-relaxes-working-capital-limit-for-power-discoms-as-covid-19-relief-2838397 I have asked the question to someone with understanding of the field, and will post the summary response, if at all I get a reply ! Good to see a small blue uptick today :)

Good morning emptyend (and all )! In terms of technological competitive advantage, for a R&D perspective I get the impression that we are continuing to invest and improving our product offering to become more cost effective, remain technologically relevant and of course ideally develop innovative products. I gather we have about 5-6 full time engineering related post doctorates Ph.Ds working for us at Cambridge - so that is pretty impressive, given we may have about 50-60 staff in total (need to check) Worth refreshing / re-reading the 30 June 2020 Powerpoint Presentation on the top of this BB. Slide 22 deals new products being released. From a commercial competitive advantage, we have a very high calibre Indian team with the right connections in our biggest market. Personal trust and relationships are hugely important to do business in India and in much of SE Asia. We also seem to making good progress in Thailand and the Nordics. From a manufacturing competitive advantage, we are partnered with 3 of the biggest Tier 1 meter manufacturers in India who control over 50% market share. Also our CNIC cards are contract manufactured in India by an American company (Syrma) and hence outside the "China embargo" placed by the Indian Govt and we appear to have the capacity to ramp up production without any anticipated bottlenecks. From a revenue model perspective, we now also have an Opex model on offer, which negates the high upfront capex costs which were about $30 for a smart meter in India (out of which I think we got about $14 or so per smart meter over a 5 year contract period)- but this could have changed with the passage of time and volume discounts that may kick in. Those interested, need to DYOR of their own too !! We appear to have learned the lessons in bidding and it appears we are more selective when and where we bid and ensuring at an early stage that a clear and visible line of secure funding is in place. I think the recent announcements of getting money up front as advance is also a good move to keep our cash flow moving. So all in all, I think we are in a much stronger position than over the years and the market seems to be taking note ! Good luck all :)

Hi Sabre6....though we have had innumerable false dawns to date, the very fact that we are solvent, not furloughed staff thru the pandemic, and winning contracts with advance payments upfront confirm that we are not in danger of going bust.A number of BBers were repeatedly stating from March 2019 onwards that a fund raise was on the cards. We are now in Aug 2020 and that has not happened. So I think people are waking up to the potential and market sentiment to CYAN may be starting to improve. The liquidity seems to be very tight for whatever reason and that augurs well for when we get further commercial news.

Link courtesy of and thanks to LongTermInvestor on the other thread...for historical context (news from 2018) Https://www.newindianexpress.com/business/2018/aug/29/adani-takes-over-reliance-infrastructures-mumbai-energy-business-for-rs-18800-crore-1864600.html And more recent / relevant July 2020 news... Https://www.financialexpress.com/industry/adani-mumbai-discom-losses-nearly-double-in-three-months/2034623/ Given our track record in improving revenue generation by approx 25% in our flagship Indore project, I am sure Anil will be emphasising this very point to the powers that be in Adani :)

Hi emptyend ! Yes there may be interest....but for CYAN strategically it may not make sense possibly ? As a company, would you want to get taken over and then rule yourself out of the running with 2 of the biggest other players in the Indian smart meter market ? We want to continue having 3 bites of every cherry ! Hypothetical eg: If Genus takes CYAN out, will L&T or HP want to have us as their communications provider ? Busy now...will catch up later :)

All excellent points. One might think that one of these companies would be interested in taking over Cyan (given the cost is so modest) and excluding their competitors from using Cyan technology for their bids?

The multibillion$ Adani Group is tendering for 700k Smart Meters in Mumbai with a requirement for RF Mesh canopy with closing date 14 Sep 2020. Quite a short Tender Open period given the size I would think !! Https://mercomindia.com/adani-invites-bids/ We have previously worked in Mumbai with the Reliance group, I seem to recall. and Adani seems to have taken over this Reliance business. I am sure that Anil Daulani and his team would have developed an excellent relationship with this major customer. The following sentence in the article, caught my eye. "....Bidders have to maintain the entire solution for ten years, and it must be scalable up to 3 million...." Looks like CYAN would appear to meet the technical and commercial specs, if we were invited to join any consortia led by Genus, L&T or HP. We could have more than one bite of this Tender (as with most other Indian Tenders) as we are effectively OEM RF Mesh solution for all three of these Tier 1 Meter Manufacturers in India who apparently control over 50% market share of meters in India. Very interesting.....good luck all :) PS: Edited

Maybe the GPRS based EESL roll out chickens are coming home to roost ? HTtps://www.dailypioneer.com/2020/state-editions/obsolete-tech-behind--smart-meter-tripping-.html ".....Verma said the UPPCL had given contract for purchase of 40 lakh smart meters at a cost of Rs 1,927 crore. He said 2G and 3G was an obsolete technology and the UPPCL should have opted either for 4G or equivalent NBIOT (narrow band internet of things) communication technology...."

Translation required, but gather that this clip which is largely in Hindi talks about Rourkela in Odisha State (India) could be keen on replicating the Indore model based on the outcomes being achieved there. HTtps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-YHmBphPcc&feature=youtu.be Should keep an eye out for a Tender(s) !! More on Odisha: HTtps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odisha So circa 42m population and that makes it a little under 2/3rd of our entire UK population !!

Potentially a very interesting development re J&K smart metering tender...hot off Twitter ! HTtps://twitter.com/RECLindia/status/1288764204522979328?s=09 I wonder/speculate if the "sub contractor" mentioned is DongFang Electronics who seem to have been co-opted by Techno Electric despite not bidding for the RF Mesh element ? That would potentially fit in with them being identified as a Chinese subsidiary as per Twitter. If the above speculation is true, it could be that CYAN is back in the running with this contract and then we should have a RNS once the wheels of Government communication turn. Good luck all !
