15/11/2001 04:16 | howser, the most skillfull blackjack players are the ones that dont get asked to leave and not come back to often, the casino's are fully aware the game is beatable, they want you to play as long as you dont know how, the skill is not the card counting and memorising the correct play, anybody can learn this and once you learn it, they can put the fastest dealer in the house on you and you just make more per hour, the skill is in not looking like a card counter, all a casino has to do if they notice a blackjack player winning is count the cards and moniter the players bets for a few shoes, it soon becomes clear whether their counting cards or not, as its the patten of betting more when the shoe is rich in tens that stands out like a sore thumb, blackjack is a very easily beatable game, the casino isnt unlesss you can disguise your bets and not get too greedy, if you can manage this, you may well be a winner, if you continued to deal blackjack to a card counter, they would take all your money in the end because they have an edge over you, the only way you could stop them taking all your money is to refuse to deal them cards! | wonging
14/11/2001 22:57 | The only technique anyone needs to learn to play casino games is how to lose your money as slowly as possible. No matter how hard people try and find a system, the fact remains that you cant change the odds of winning. The most skilfull blackjack player in the world is the one who loses his money last. | howser

12/9/2001 18:36 | I play 7-card stud and texas holdem. been playing for 13 yrs. I also studied blackjack. Reading the posts it would appear that there are a lot of gamblers here! If you seriously expect to win from a system in a negative sum game, do yourself a favour and really study how the casinos make money and you will soon give up. Yes, an edge can be obtained in blackjack, but its a very small edge, about 1-3% max, depending on the no. of packs in a shoe and how much of the deck is cut. Those who are determined and folly enough to try this pursuit should read Arnold Snyder's Blackbelt in Blackjack. This is acknowledged as the best counting system around. Ed Thorpe's book btw, is a bit outdated. Where casinos really get you is not because of the size of the house edge, but because of your *turnover* of bets. (Turnover being the amount you bet times the no. of bets you make). They will also nail you with the house limit, for those of you who have thought of using the martingale system!! | kobarclay

02/9/2001 19:12 | You cannot win in a game of chance in the long term. There is no such thing as a trend, other than with hindsight; each spin of the wheel is a mutually exclusive event. You can only, "stop when you are ahead ", once in your life. | the wah
01/9/2001 09:03 | I gamble blackjack in real casinos: occasionally for a week at a time. My strategy is simple: Most of the time the odds are 1:1 winning versus losing: so only double stakes on draw occasions i.e doubling against a dealer's low card, two aces etc. When the dealer is winning consistently walk away and find another table When the dealer has a losing streak double up. I start with relatively small stakes £50 to £100 and once I have winnings of that amount, I gamble my winnings only and save 25% as unplayable. Sometimes I will end up losing, but when I win I retain most and since when winning my stakes are far greater than when losing overall I end considerably up. Treat it as recreational fun and you lose. Gamble when drunk.. ditto. | madasafish |
