10/1/2018 08:47 | Harold... That would only be a stop gap solution Yes it would bring folk in for a bit then it would revert back to the way it was before The high street is changing and these shops simply haven’t the draw I know Bilston well and that shop was so far out of place in the town, it’s in the quieter area Cannock shop I have been to twice and again it’s just in the dead end of town but with the right management it might have worked especially after reading that it was the only butcher in the town They should have done it in the traditional serve over counters not pre packed Someone didn’t do their homework with these 2 shops and the buck stops with NC | vicarage13
10/1/2018 08:34 | If the shops were underperforming why didn't they try a leaflet drop via royal mail with offers one couldn't refuse ? We do it pre xmas and the results are quite successful | haroldthegreat
10/1/2018 08:09 | The shutters are down at Crawshaws in Market Hall Street, Cannock, and a sign on the shop declares that it has permanently closed. | playful
09/1/2018 17:38 | Following the closure of the two stores with all the staff losing there job how much longer can NC keep his job? | cookierufc
09/1/2018 13:12 | As a retailer and a landlord it is very UNLIKLEY that you give a rent free period without at least a 5 year term. Reverse premiums are also possible but again a term would be agreed. Looking at that property that's 30k minimum so a 5 year term following a year rent free would cost the 150k plus staff costs and to remove all the new equipment. 500k as a minimum. 09/1/2018 12:52 | That would be very unusual - whole point of a new lease is the rent free period at the beginning. That's probably the reason they're able to claim they get a quick payback on new factory stores - they don't pay any rent initially! That may well be the whole business model - expand fast by taking on new leases with no initial cash rent. If I was an investor I'd be asking that question of the management. Before all the chickens get up off the floor where they've fallen and come home to roost. | igbertsponk
09/1/2018 12:17 | With the Bilston store being new and a recent negotiated lease it may hopefully have had a low cost to exit and so they bit the bullet early. | davidosh
09/1/2018 09:38 | LloydsPharmacy is a British pharmacy company, with more than 1,500 pharmacies. It has around 17,000 staff and dispenses over 150 million prescription items annually. It is owned by the German company Celesio, ... Number of employees: 17,000 They are closing or selling approximately 190 of them. 09/1/2018 07:32 | Playful This is a good question and it’s also an indication of just how out of touch NC is In his relentless urgency to open up new shops he and his team failed to see the flaw in High St shops versus Factory shops Like I said before it’s business suicide to have had a pricing structure the way it was and unfortunately the demise of Bilston (A Lovley brand new shop)with staff also losing their wage The first I heard of Bilston and Cannock closing was on here so I phoned a good friend of mine who has a business in Bilston to take a look and yes it was shut with a notice on the door If we are to see a return on our investments then poor performing shops must go but let’s not forget that NC was at the helm in opening these High Street shops My guess is that these 2 High St stores won’t be the last to shut this year now that they have got the taste of blood The company needs streamlining and in my mind that streamlining ought to start at the top | vicarage13
09/1/2018 01:27 | Where are you seeing the news about store closures ? The Bilston store only opened 18 months ago.... Nothing at all to suggest closures in this local newspaper story from three days ago... | davidosh
08/1/2018 23:16 | vicarage13, you posted comment on the Bilston shop & West Brom factory shop pricing disparity (post # 4848) almost 12 months ago… We now pass Bilston shop to go to West Brom factory shop Bilston dead.....West Brom rammed Why ?? It's business suicide and they know it If you could see this coming from a shareholder’s perspective 12 months ago, why didn’t our highly salaried management team? | playful
08/1/2018 19:22 | No public announcements over shop closers? What have they to hide. Worrying times ahead. | teaser1
08/1/2018 13:25 | CRAW's been a great success..... for the CEO's wage packet. and for 2S who can palm off their unsold stuff through CRAW, big money saved on that waste. Bit of a basket case for shareholders though. 2S imo, were in this to reduce waste costs from the outset, and thus for them it's a win win on margins, don't need every shop in the estate to do that, just enough to keep the whole show solvent. I wouldn't hold your breath if you think there's a turnaround story here. | owenski
08/1/2018 12:26 | Well if they are off loading underperforming units... then why not off load an underperforming Ceo. His big reputation isnt as glowing as his bio claims. | teaser1

08/1/2018 11:16 | Having read the Crawshaw trading update on Friday, I noticed some readers were confused if it was a good or bad update. Looking back at prior years’ updates will put the 0.6% sales growth into perspective. Below are the results: In January 2017, group sales grew by 13%. In 2016, group sales grew by 64%. In 2015, group sales rose by 21%. Therefore, 0.6% sales growth was the smallest on Crawshaw record. And despite opening 10 new stores, which could represent 10% sales, it got 0.6%. This means the LFL sales decline of 6% is eating away growth from stores opened less than a year. 06/1/2018 17:45 | When animals of any kind ... or poultry , or fish are fed or injected with any kind of antibiotics or compounds to kill parasites. The residues of the compounds used reside in the organs Thus the eating of animal offal, including chicken livers, is taking the chance of ingesting concentrated toxicological compounds that could in time impair your own organs. This is why the Vegan diet is now the number one most popular with younger eaters Also why shops specialising in vegan products are also doing well. Meat it would seem is on the way out. Prion disease from eating contaminated meat eg BSE and CJD , looks set to hit the world headlines within the next 12 to 24 months as CWD disease in Deer and Elk herds spreads through the USA. CWD will become the BSE equivalent for the Yanks | buywell3
06/1/2018 11:14 | The novelty factor plays a part when opening new outlets, they do well initially but then things slow down to steady but very predictable trading. Factory shops going from a standing start and maintaining momentum is very much hit & miss depending on location & parking. What worries me is the staff morale now management are talking of abandoning the high street, we have a clear majority of employees out on the high street who are today worried about their jobs, so I hope a swift changeover is made with any potential buyer or joint venture partner. | playful |
