I am long term holder across the board, so not interested in short term ups and downs.

Yes, I've seen that mooted in a few places - mainly the overvaluation of the US market and the cold-catching. The FTSE is not happy today. Ergo why I tend to always trade some - there is often no underlying reason for 10-20% movements, so nice to take advantage.

I vaguely recall there is something happening in the sector tomorrow which might also be a drag (or might not), but for the life of me I can't remember what it is...😉

And bought back some of last week's sales. Just keep taking the cash as it appears.

Still happy to see it lower (buy more back) tomorrow on the back of KIE, or higher (have plenty).

Notice the step changes around the various rescue right issues.

Now, who's had one of those recently? And who is about to have one?

Good weekend all...

Anytime from the beginning of 2019 onward's those charts would show Costain on the backfoot?
Had to go back to 2018 to fix it.

That chart does show that Kier has performed 15-20% better than Costain since October though. Again, silly market, what do they know eh? ;)

This is when some of the KIE fanatics pitch up and claim outperformance, KIE is clearly much better etc etc...

Wednesday next week - KIE results. Popcorn bought...

I'm not saying they move in synch on a daily basis.

There's a whole other debate (not for now, it's Friday 4pm...) on whether the share price is the sole measure of value - and therefore if the shares prices move in synch, it doesn't follow that the market's valuation of them as businesses moves in synch. See enterprise value comments posted previously:

(This includes a very 'kind' version of KIE's debt - it doesn't include the £80m owed to HMRC, nor the £125m supplier finance liabilities. Both of those are very real, immediate and additional to the £436m. But I was being nice at the time...)

If share prices have moved in sync why is COST not up much higher today?

I'm not sure I dare answer...

Same sector, competitors, share prices have moved in synch (so far), same type of clients, both multi-year income order books, both made large losses recently. Erm, both have threads on ADVFN?

Slightly different balance sheets and outlooks though. Possibly...

Very good - because I'm stupid😎, I've just sold some (more) of the ones bought recently in the 50s.

Only a few, and only ahead of KIE next week. Will buy them back for less if I get the chance, if not have plenty to be getting on with.

Note (chart in header) how it bounced (upwards) off the 200 day moving average, and has now moved above the 50 day. Very bullish.

Slight concern over KIE results and whatever else (placement etc) occurs next week (Wednesday). Could be worse than that, but not starting another argument over that...

Will probably be some short term effect here, positive or negative.
