waldof,i am highly doubtful that mr r has that many friends left, and having kept an eye on this the only evidence of activity in size was lehman bros exiting stage left, which is still overhanging the market.the glory days of financial engineering such as you discribe are long gone and any target worth it's salt would laugh in their faces.because either you are discribing a way of puffing the paper to well over realistic value to use as currency to make an acquisition or that they would be offering a fully underwritten cash alternative for the big deal.not in this market i don't think.
he will probably just revert to doing the same old thing puffing up something like ggt then banging his holding out to a bucket shop to stuff poor unsuspecting grannies in.
anyway you're a huge buyer which is lucky because they look well offered!

Bubface: I hear you loud and clear and can see your reasoning perfectly well, but markets and market players are full of surprises.

Just suppose that over the last few months number of savvy funds/instis/investors have been acquiring large chunks of CVS (but under 3% mind). On the cheap understand. Folks with a close understanding of what AR is looking to do.And let us not forget that for all the chat ARis a very wealthy individual. AR owns 30% of CVS and the other savvy funds/hedgies/insti's own maybe another 15 -20%. They identify the right target: one that AR has always said is undervalued/badly run/value not reflected in share price etc etc ( a bit like Royal and Sun or EMI ).They can offer new shares in CVS at 25 or 30p...FULLY UNDERWRITTEN by them to raise whatever and then finance the rest of the purchase on target's cash flow etc and other obvuious means.Of couse their own stake would be diluted BUT look at the price they paid for their initial stake of 2.9% in CVS..PEANUTS.
Now i am not abanker but i have had this explained to me even if i am not explaining it to you very well.

Either way i am a huge buyer and holder of CVS...and at this pricei am more than happy to add, and will. I believe my day will come and when it does i think i will be a very happy chap.

But i can understand your sceptisism.

they've always talked big and all they did was pump out a few over valued minnows.waldof how they going to fund this big deal then...with paper er no,with mountains of debt..that's easy at the moment.maybe they have saved a lot of tesco points and are going to splash them out on one big acquisition!
also my estimate is that the company would be lucky to have £1.5m cash even with cmm dividend in.remember the overheads might be running more like a £1m per year now but where running at closer to £5m until recently...sure gets through those sale proceeds quickly.

drew:

The small cap' team at CVS has been disbanded. Those were the guys involved in bringing the whole raft of smaller co's to AIM over the past three years - the ones which CVS had stakes in i.e Bluewater,Gable ,Conival etc.
all are now focused on the big picture, the big deal. The right payers have their stakes in CVS and are ready to fund the issue. Are you a fisherman....i am

I think there are a number of people with significant capital deficits on this one, from when the CMM deal was thought to be done and dusted at around 60p (and we were in the high 20s), wouldn't be at all surprised if some took big margin calls on the way down and were forced into some irrational selling to cover, hence exacerbating the whole market demise.

Anyhow, I agree we are somewhat undervalued, confirmation of 3p cash would be the best news in a long while, as it would surely force up the SP, if there were to be some clarification for targets going forwards, all the better, even if it means bringing CMM in house, together with their wheel-barrows full of cash...

Shouldn't be long to wait.

and Gable Holdings and the placing at 12p a share (albeit last year).
There are a number of big players with just under 3% too.
This will'go'soon and when it does it will fly as the stock is very tightly held.
One problem pointed out to me was the lack of liquidity in the stock ( also in CMM )which is making it hard for serious players to get a good stake at reasonable price. And the price is artificial at the moment for that reason (as well as the daft price of CMM )i.e to let them in.
But i understand that the 'powers that be ' are very relaxed about the current s/p. Sure, they could get it up with a couple of pieces of 'news' only to see the advance retreat over the next week. No. It'll be a shot between the eyes.

3p seems high. Nanoscience, Conival and Upstream disposals will have generated some, then the 1.5p cash divi from CMM to boot, but I can't get to that sort of figure.

Depends how much the boys took in bonuses I guess.

They have 83m GGT from the last GGT RNS.

If we also have 3p in cash plus all these holdings we should be higher, stating the obvious I know.

The results will be out this month judging by past years (26 June last year)so hopefully they will give a summary of the current position at the same time.

With all the sales over the last 12 months, where is the definitive list of investments still held?
DTEC website shows 17% holding by CVS, GGT are also showing (increased based on recent RNS) holdings, so apart form the CMM and cash consideration, what are we riding for free?

From the RNS news feeds I think the following but stand to be corrected:

1.6m HWC
8.6m ROE
76m CMM
an unknown number of GGT (perhaps c.60m)
33.2m DTEC
29.3m CN.

Then there's cash, and any unlisted holdings (50% of Zeltis which I believe is onoing in SA).

If anyone is interested in an oilie EO. looking good. Had a nice bounce today in a sea of red on the back of its gas storage. Not a tip as not responsible for what others do and the volume is high enough already.

H neither did I get burnt on NT. I knew when to leave that ship even though it was good to me. It has had its day.

CVS has its fingers in some interesting pies and I look forward to seeing the share price climb back up. When that will be I do not know but am happy to buy when it is quiet rather than jump in with everyone else.

Humbugg I did not get burnt, I just did not stick around as the share price was weak. I have never posted nonsense. There is a lot of paranoia on these boards. I post what I think/know at the time, as you know things can change.

All fine thanks.

6 months maybe sooner but in this market you never know.

They are making plenty of cash and are undervalued here.

They are presenting to the city at the moment so we may see some institutional buying in the coming weeks and as long as there is no hang over that should get it moving.

Because of the cash position and the profitability you can never rule out a bid ofr a metal trader, could be very interesting.

Do you have an e-mail address?

What is your timescale on CMM?

Try CZA should get a re-rating soon and Mittal is accumulating, 35% minimum from here.

Leed Pet could be 200p in 6 months 3 months will see double.

There is nothing new coming here until a resolution of the CMM investment is resolved, its a shame that the NAN investment was sold.

After CMM is done there will be action, either they will bid for CMM or they will take their cash and find a 250 target.

Happy to take a look at anything interesting but not if they have already shot up. I will of course make up my own mind based on what I find out.

We should be getting the interims here soon and it will be interesting to find out how they have done since March as hopefully they will comment on recent events.
