16/7/2001 10:13 | BB, I know where you coming from and will sometimes if the dealer is playing badly go blind, so as to advoid the temptation to throw in the cards if i have no hand. It can be a real suprise when something good comes out of a blind hand. Not to mention a buzz. Anyway as some one else said it is a skill to know when to stack the odds and bets in your favour. regards ANdy | renda2
16/7/2001 01:51 | I normally play stud poker, and also bet when i have no hand, as i find dealer has no hand either so at least i get a 33% profit. Also bet blind for a real buzzy. i have found that if 7 people are playing dealer then normally half will have a hand, thus if i have no hand and 4 or more people Gamble i also Gamble in short i normally go with the flow, and normally profit from this. also the real trick is knowing when to ajust your steake in your favour. Has anyone every seen a Clock Or Window on the Casino betting floor ? BB | bootifulboy

16/7/2001 01:17 | Sardine you won't start to bang on about things like Mr Canoe will you - the JD and Coke sounds very nice - if the atmos is nice I'll pull from the casino and have a few quite drinks | baden
16/7/2001 01:07 | Baden: 'GTB' and then knock three times on the side door as I have a large JD and coke waiting for you! | sardine
16/7/2001 01:00 | whilst my CAS portfolio continues to grow I will continue to punt - my downside risk is small now - at the very least the capital will not be lost | baden
15/7/2001 23:51 | Having run a roulette simulator and looking at the record for a run of one colour (44 I think)I fully understand that the martingale system (doubling up on each losing spin)does not work and even Bill Gates would end up running out of money eventually. However I think the point that Baden makes about walking a way when you are up is important. For limited periods of time you can make money but I always try and walk away after a good run because I know that in time I will lose it. I also think the other important point is to view the casino as a form of entertainment not a place to get rich quick. Interesting to see they are thinking about relaxing casino rules in this country and turning blackpool into a mini "vegas".Having visited las vegas(amazing place) I can't see it somehow but should be interesting to see what does happen. | tim 3
15/7/2001 22:43 | I was after all a croupier for 2 years - inside knowledge always helps | baden
15/7/2001 21:08 | There was a thread a while back that ended up talking about gambling strategies - can't remember the actual thread and it's not in "search" but an excellent site was posted that every gambler should read! It covers all sort of techniques, the likely returns, how to count cards, which versions of poker have the best odds, etc. It certainly opened my eyes! SpiceBoy | spiceboy
15/7/2001 20:58 | edit - the time the run was against me I didn't put equal amounts on black and red I put the lowest amount on red each time just to see what it would come up with (ie not doubling up) and black came up around 15 times then I thought okay lets go with the flow and but the lowest amount on black and after 15 blacks it then came up red - so I left the casino down but not massively down. | baden
15/7/2001 19:47 | I hear the stub poker in uk casinos is probably their biggest earner out of all the games. Probably better playing something like texas hold-em or other versions against other players. Personally i like to play roulette by sectors, black-jack and some punto-banco. | techno
15/7/2001 14:08 | Went out to a casino last nite ... guess I am a gambler at heart after all !! Played roulette & finished up making more than I've made trading all week. Strategy was playing the columns as well as an ocassional bet on a number & it's neighbours (trying to predict roughly what section of the wheel the ball will end up at). | apex
15/7/2001 02:46 | A casino night out, winner takes all, now that does sound like fun. Definitely be in on that one, although the losses I've made this year, better buy a cheap table :) | traderboy1
14/7/2001 12:05 | I do not know if this book is still in print, but for any potential gamblers attempting a "Martingale System" (ie each bet is doubled after a loss) it is well worth a read. "Thirteen Against the Bank" Norman Leigh; It is an amusing biography that shows typical eccentric British behaviour !! 13 English people go down to break a Casino in Monte Carlo ! well worth the read especially for those interested in gambling and the markets. | anon
13/7/2001 22:05 | Tim3, eventually you will lose with this system. Statistics say you will get a run of 9 reds which will take away £160 versus the £5 you hoped to win (plus the chance a 0 turns up) If you want to turn the tables on the casino you have to invert the rules of why the casinos win money. If you are winning then let it roll. If you are losing then only lose the minimum stake on each bet. When you are winning it is effectively using the casinos money to bet against itself. Also forget roulette its too slow. Blackjack is fast and gives you a lot of bets for the statistics to work themselves out, the cards tend to give winning runs to the dealer followed by winning runs for the players, but only play blackjack if you know the basic rules to give yourself an almost 50% chance. Having said that why bother with a casino, the markets give better odds if you can identify a bull or bear market ! | anon
13/7/2001 21:03 | Agree with Apex's last sentance but for a bit of fun heres my "system" but I will make 3 points first 1,this "system" is only based on the way I play casinos and for me it has resulted in several winning nights(although I do not play often) 2,It is unlikely to make you rich as you will eventually hit the house limit. 3,I am fully aware that after each 50/50 bet i.e red/black the chances are even that it will be a red/black next time. ok this "system" is based on roulette and to be specific on any 50/50 bet (red/black odd even ect). Firstly I will get £160 in chips which I accept that I may lose. I will use red/black for this example. The first bet is only made after a run of 3 red/blacks in a row and the bet is £5 on the other colour so if we have a run of 3 reds my first bet is on black,if I lose I will double up. If I lose again I will double up again until I reach my limit £160. Each time I win I make £5. This means that I will only lose if there is a run of 9 reds. I also walk away after I accumulate a decent profit. As I said there are no guarantees and it won't get you rich but for me it usually makes my stake last longer or has resulted in me walking away with a profit. Interested in any feedback. 13/7/2001 20:21 | I did a corporate function a couple of years ago where we rented some tables and croupiers. Maybe we should line them up for the next night out, or Xmas lunch. | scripophilist
13/7/2001 20:16 | Scrip Now there's a thought. Rent a table - X pounds each fixed table stakes - last one standing takes all. Name your game but I would go for 7-card stud. Can I be The Cincinnati Kid? Who wants to be The Man? M | martini |
