Posted at 22/1/2025 21:55 by pireric Interesting, Salver.I am not sure why I am going down the rabbit hole this deep but CFX is fascinating market case study. The 2021 Farrow & Ball acquisition gives an interesting precedent. It was sold for an enterprise value of about £400m in May 2021 by the looks of it, compared to £101m of sales and £25m of profit after tax. For context, in 2023 it did £103m of revenue and £20m of profit after tax. So it was sold for nigh on 4x EV/sales, and 16x EV to net profit after tax. Bear in mind that F&B has exceptional margins so the EV/Sales will look very high Even so, CFX is on... - About 0.3x EV/Sales - Pretend Peel Hunt is right (probably too low), so about 6x EV to net profit after tax In a trade sale, would struggle to believe they couldn't get at bare minimum 10x EV/net profit after tax which is crudely about £11/share Eric |
Posted at 22/1/2025 09:25 by hornets89 Fantastic results which I'm delighted to see, and excited for the second half with the strong dollar effect. I guess the question is more, what can management do to get this valued correctly by the market? Low liquidity on the despised AIM market... Noone is looking. In a few years, with the cash generation here, the balance sheet / valuation will just get silly. Huge special dividend at some point? Any thoughts what they should do? |
Posted at 22/12/2024 15:03 by arthur_lame_stocks Thanks for mentioning CFX on the SDG thread, I'd forgotten just what a good little company it is. |
Posted at 31/5/2024 10:28 by salver2 Yes I agree as they are a very conservative company ( a good thing)- although a larger dividend might not go amiss - with your handle are you a Watford supporter? |
Posted at 24/1/2023 11:59 by salver2 I’m suspecting a lot of hotels need refurbishment after Covid and so a lot of companies are busy on contract work - I also suspect that there has also been a sea change in tastes - comfort seems to be back less white walls more carpets ( although I realise Headlam do the lot)with respect to Cfx and Sdg more fabrics and wallpaper |
Posted at 23/1/2023 18:47 by essentialinvestor Dave, I would expect a takeout here, but that is speculation my part.Current BOD no longer spring chickens (with respect) - a larger business could likely strip out a significant wedge of annual costs. For example, SDG has manufacturing capacity where CFX do not. |
Posted at 19/12/2022 21:14 by essentialinvestor They hold, or held 2.05 million shares in CFX.Based on the shares outstanding that is very high % for a typical investment trust holding. It may make the next buy back less expensive IF they are selling down. |
Posted at 19/12/2022 20:26 by rambutan2 My bet is that it is Jupiter selling. They've taken on the remit for Rights and Issues Trust which is a longstanding big holder of CFX. I wouldn't be surprised if their compliance/risk dept require a reduction in the stake to a single figs %. |
Posted at 12/12/2022 16:08 by essentialinvestor Reduction in the CFX share count is quite extraordinary. From over 27.5 Million shares in issue, January 2000, to 7,237,535 on completion of the September 2022 buy back. |
