I was rather hoping that, 6 years later, the title of this thread would become relevant again! Ideal time for one of the US defence companies to have a crack at it.

Use to use COB. as a safety stock, under the Bush/Blair era. There's value to be had here, just about timing in my opinion. I'm watching the developments and see a couple of options, drip feed into the portfolio slowly or wait till the equity raising price has been announced and approved.

Sold and make a quick profit given the markets and a rights issue coming up think may get this below 145 soon

I've looked at Cobham for a while without ever buying but bought a few for my pension his morning. They're trading around 10x PE once adjusted for a £500m RI - that's not a multiple which they'll stay at for long. Either current estaimtes are too high, despite them coming down by about 40% since the problems were announced, or the share price is too low, or they'll be acquired by one of the many substantially larger companies in the sector. Either way I think its good value at current levels, though will probably take > 12 months for that value to emerge. Hence adding to pension where I have my most patient capital, rather than ISA or trading account

Well have brought in this morning was thinking of buying before ex div date but did not. Lets see what the rights issue price is and will it be to all share holders or a block scale. First time in this share but buying on a five year low

Read Edison's note on COBHAM, out this morning, by visiting hxxps://www.research-tree.com/company/GB00B07KD360 "The FY16 profit warning and rights issue announced with the Q1 trading statement reflect the limited progress Cobham has made in recent years. The main problem appears to be a lack of core organic performance and reliance on an M&A-driven strategy to instil growth. These are similar criticisms to those levelled at previous management teams. Cobham now appears vulnerable as the technology positions and assets are attractive, but it looks like a slow process to drive value recovery in its current form ..."

Yes was thinking of buying as well and may still do as agree with CWA1 re dividend but it is a risk. Agree going fwd div could be under pressure but on a two three year out look could do well

Just re-read the results....really awful. I would imagine the divi is now under threat. Taken this off my watch list as I don't see it being investable until the autumn at the earliest.

Jeez I got lucky I was wondering there wasn't much of a rise before the divi last week so I sold my 204s for 214 on Friday luck or what GLA

I am looking at this stock its at nearly 5 year low certainly a more than a three year low. Could buy now and get a yield of 4% and then a few weeks sell off so that could make say 10% or more. If i pay needs to be by wednesday to get the div payed out in end May am worried about the debt but will I hope only hold it for three months or so

Thanking my lucky stars that I did exit at the end of last year. Now looking rather attractive especially considering the divi which looks well covered.

Salpara111 - "Seems to be headwinds everywhere at present!" Yes, Oil down, China slowing, huge debt in parts of Europe, it's all a tad depressing. Tailwinds ? How about all these people taking cruises ? I wouldn't go on one if you paid me but there ain't many land based holiday destinations that are safe these days ha ha - Carnival anyone ?

Seems to be headwinds everywhere at present! What sectors are benefiting from tailwinds? I can exit at around b/e this morning and am sorely tempted to do so but they are still going to grow eps by 9% so they are clearly doing pretty well, it is a pity the share price does not reflect that.

Salpara111 - "I am in no hurry to panic sell but I do think that I will seriously reappraise my holding over the weekend." Yes, will have to think about this one ha ha. I note that BA. were also down, so is the defence industry suddenly out of favour ???

Yeah, I am back at b/e on my holding here and not sure what to do. Clearly the warning by Chemring and then Meggit are having an effect on the sector. The big question is, will it have a lasting effect or will COB be able to rise again from here. I am in no hurry to panic sell but I do think that I will seriously reappraise my holding over the weekend.
