Trading updateThe heightened trading activity experienced at the end of February and highlighted in the 3 March trading update has continued into March. The Group has experienced continued high levels of client trading activity over the Period which has been in excess of double that seen in more normalised market conditions in both our CFD and stockbroking businesses. During the Period the retention of client income has remained strong. This leads the Board to expect to deliver net operating income ahead of current market consensus(1) for the year ended 31 March 2020 with nine trading days remaining in the financial year.

Hi all,

My mate Peter @Conkers3 and myself did another Podcast a few days ago and CMCX was one of the Stocks that we rambled around. We also covered lots on the Markets and what we were expecting all this Virus stuff to mean. Anyway, if you use Apple or Audioboom you can find it under the 'Conkers Corner' Channel (you want TPI Podcast 18) and you can find it on Soundcloud on the link below.

Cheers, WD

CMC Markets flags profit jump amid Covid-19 stock volatilityOnline trading platform CMC Markets today predicted that its full year profit would beat market forecasts amid higher customer trading due to the Covid-19 coronavirus outbreak.Net operating income for the year to the end of March is set to beat the current estimate of £199m to £202.3m. "I am delighted that CMC's strategy of targeting and retaining higher valued clients and our diversifying revenue base, alongside our ongoing success in retaining a higher percentage of client income, has continued to yield positive underlying performance throughout the second half of the year," chief executive Peter Cruddas said.CMC has previously forecast profit before tax to land somewhere in the range of £46.9m to £56.7m.CMC Markets' rival Plus500 last week said it also saw a boost from the coronavirus chaos. Trading activity surged over its first quarter of 2020 in response to the coronavirus crisis as traders bet on stocks' performance. The rapid spread of the Covid-19 virus outside of China last week wiped £200bn off the FTSE 100, and saw US and UK stocks suffer their worst week since the 2008 financial crisis.CMC said net operating income rose 45 per cent for the six months to the end of September, when it hit £102.3m. And the spreadbetter today said performance "has continued to maintain momentum throughout Q4 2020"Stocks continued to be volatile yesterday as an OECD warning that the Covid-19 outbreak would halve global growth dented the FTSE 100's recovery.Meanwhile, US stocks surged as traders looked ahead to an expected Federal Reserve interest rate cut.Central banks across the world have said they are monitoring the Covid-19 outbreak and are ready to take action.

hxxps://www.investorschronicle.co.uk/alpha/2020/03/02/earnings-momentum-shares-to-watch-on-a-rebound/ Unsurprisingly, following the worst week for global stock markets since 2008, there aren't many companies scoring well on our momentum screens. Monday morning saw the FTSE 100 regain some ground, then hand it back with interest, and investors should expect further twists and more volatility.Businesses that still score reasonably well such as protective rubber specialist Avon Rubber (AVON), and software holding company AVEVA (AVV) do represent an opportunity to buy quality at a more reasonable price. Investors should be careful buying on the dips, as it's difficult to call when a bottom has been reached, but a system like pound or value cost averaging can help drip feed money into markets like these.Smaller companies that do well both on the All Share screen and using the slightly different set of rules we use for the FTSE All Small Companies index, include Avon and businesses like spread better CMC Markets (CMCX) – a company that makes its money from people trading volatile markets.Another Holding company for IT software – CentralNic (CNIC) - tops our Aim screen.

hxxps://www.fool.co.uk/investing/2020/03/03/these-2-dividend-growth-stocks-have-spiked-15-id-buy-them-for-my-2020-isa/The CMC Markets (LSE: CMCX) price also leapt upwards Tuesday, by 15%, on the back of a trading update.CMC shares have seriously beaten 4Imprint's over the past month, more than doubling in value. It pays dividends too, though they're a little more erratic as EPS seems somewhat volatile on a year-to-year basis. Forecasts suggest a 5.5% yield for the current year, though it would drop to around 4% on next year's predictions. But that's still a tempting yield, and could contribute nicely to a long-term accumulation of cash. The trading platform provider looks to be putting in an impressive year, with a trading update headlined "Strong underlying performance continuing in Q4 2020."Beating expectationsThe company now expects to "deliver net operating income ahead of market consensus for the year ended 31 March 2020."Looking at the one-year share price chart, we could be forgiven for thinking we're looking at a typical growth share ride. But it's been more of a recovery than anything, and examining the past five years we see a few price slumps that still show their effect. At 177p, CMC shares are actually down 26% on their flotation price of 240p in February 2016. So that's more evidence that buying at IPO might not be such a good idea, and it can pay to wait and see how a company's fortunes turn out.Forecasts suggest P/E valuations of 12 to 13.5 over the next two years for CMC, and I think that's undervalued. This is another I have lined up as an ISA possibility.

Think it will be today. In addition, the recent market conditions experienced have seen heightened trading activity amongst CMC's clients over and above the strong performance delivered to date. This leads the Board to expect to deliver net operating income ahead of market consensus1 for the year ended 31 March 2020.
