Ironic that I put half my profits from IGG into this with great expectations and half into WMH as a punt.

From a technical perspective, should be a solid base around the 300p area. Should it reach that! Could quite as easily pop up 5-10% on any given day also.

Yeah moves fast on good news and drops with no news! Think the market is concerned that the growth is solely down to the market volatility and when that normalises earnings will drop considerably. IMO market volatility and Covid will be here for at least another year and CMC was issuing profit upgrades before Covid began and their technology offering is growing so although the market volatility is a factor it’s not the only one!

Basket case of a stock! Thought I was doing well to get back in at 328 after last Friday’s surge!

imo it's liquidity that's the issue.

The spike up was the FTSE 250 entry. And the volatility is good as long as their clients don't go bust, or indeed back to work. The former is likely to be happening, whereas the latter isn't thanks to the announcement a couple of days ago. One other point possibly missed is that their most recent trading statement, while very positive and vastly higher than the same period last year (they compare against Q1 rather than Q2?), did show a slowing in the rate of growth, suggesting that the lights-out scenario may not be what happens: "As a result, net operating income for Q1 2021 is in excess of that reported for H1 2020" - so Q1 was better than H1 (more than doubled); but "The Group's consistently strong trading performance across the business has continued, with net operating income run rate for the two month period only slightly below Q1 2021" - i.e. months 4 and 5 (2 months) were slightly below Q1 last year (under two thirds growth, not doubled.)

8th October. Strange to see this dropping, was 370p last Friday! Would have thought the increased volatility would help business here...

The October update will hopefully give this a boost.

Even lower now, I'm tempted but any more news out of Boris could kill it and accelerate the drop.

40p of earnings this year should see us break through 400p and following years forecasts look way too low so expecting upgrades to those. Who knows but even 500p could not end up looking too rich.

i.p. I wouldn't fret too much about the FTSE250 promotion. At each index threshold, most stocks perform worse in the quarter following promotion than in the quarter before it. (Though a few do buck that trend). Someone did explain the logic of why that is; I'll see if I can dig it out.

I do wish I had known about the FTSE 250 thing earlier - so bored of waiting I sold for under 350 as funds 'needed' (better opportunity?) elsewhere - profitable, but in the words of the legendary Jim Bowen, come and have a look at what you could have won... My fault for not doing my research.

It will be interesting to see if those share awards issued today get sold, tomorrow or over the next few days. And whether we will know - dependent on whether any seller is required to disclose.

Markets have a very choppy feel, with us elections, Brexit and covid around cmc will likely benefit big time from continued volatility.

The target I have for the confirmed INV H&S pattern is 370. Historical resistance at approx 375.5 An eod close above 375.5 confirms a continuation pattern with a tp approx 422.25

What the current surge shows is that it is a very scaleable business, able to handle a massive increase in volmes (contrast with the likes of Ocado). It also demonstrates that business can surge; the speculation is whether it will fall back. Frankly no-one knows, so (personal opinion) the forecasts for 2021 can be written on a piece of toilet paper - which that 18p for next year probably is. There is no reason they cannot continue at the 2020 rates or higher.
