Shifted a few into TW this morning, it looks to have more robust interest, already in profit :)

Strange that oil prices , especially West Texas ( which is harder to transport and store than , say , Brent ) , have taken a hammering today , with this volatility surely producing yet more trade for platforms like CMC , and yet the share price here continues to soften . Today’s Telegraph ( page 1 ) says the fall in oil prices is “ unprecedented , and far greater than anything seen since the Second World War “ . The Telegraph writes “ ... oil firms were willing to pay traders to take the product off their hands . It fell as low as - $ 40.32 ” . No , that’s NOT a typo by me - MINUS $ 40.32 . However , the BB price of oil for one month’s delivery did better , dropping 16% , but remained above $ 20 a barrel . Apart from the increase in business for CMC and its competitors , I presume that the drop in oil with have a deflationary effect in the economy in general .

The good news is that the FY21 eps estimates have been steadily revised upwards from <10p earlier this year so definitely moving in the right direction and hopefully still well behind the curve. Maybe we just have ultracautious management (a good thing) or are forward EPS predictions particularly difficult to estimate for this sector? IG and Plus estimates may suggest something that is sector specific. Relative newbie to this company/sector so don't know the answers.

Thanks firtashia.Would be keen to understand why the 42% drop in eps for FY21 as well. IG has a fall too but only about 3%, but Plus forecast drop is 28%. The forecast drop in eps here seems excessive!.

DiscoDave4. I think its because FY21 revs and EPS are forecast to drop to £204m & 16p respectively - if you or anyone else could shed any light on why this is so I'd be grateful. I hold here as I believe those forecasts will be proven to be too conservative given the current and likely future volatility in the markets & happy to pick up a reasonable divi in the meantime.

Not a holder yet.CEO reckons pre tax will be £100m, so that's about 29p eps, a PE of only 7. Trailing 12 months the PE is 23.Am I missing something?

The low volume over recent days doesn't indicate much Institutional interest, imo that's still to kick in, I'm expecting that end of May - First two weeks June.

As " eesa " pointed out , there was a half-page article in Sunday's Telegraph ( 12/4/2020 ) , called " The Sunday Interview " , with Peter Cruddas , the founder of CMC Markets . The substantive points to me are that " [ CMC ] reckons it will post around £ 100 million in pre-tax profits for the year to March 31 .... It's also a vast improvement on the paltry £ 6.3 million CMC made the previous year , when financial markets were becalmed and the entire industry was adapting to the crackdown by European regulators on leveraged trading ... [ Mr. Cruddas ]admits it wouldn't be making £ 100 million without the virus , but CMC was already reaping the benefit of a greater mix of " professional " clients - to whom the regulations do not apply - after fishing for the more expensive " tuna " in the trading sea " . Good luck all . Do your own research .

As a new holder here, does anyone know the reason why EPS is expected to decline to 15.8p? Presumably the company will recently have given some sort of steer to the analysts covering it. Is it purely an extremely ultracautious outlook? Agree that there is good potential for upwards revision, hopefully providing a fillip to the share price.
