It would be really nice to get some news on sales.

I suspect that that may be simply because the marketmakers were short. It could be because they have a buyer waiting.I doubt that they'd pay more than the bid price if it made them long

Nice (at least) to see that the share price has definately bottomed out at this level. Even after today's 80k sell it remained firm.

3p is not that big a reach - the market cap would still be below £2 million. At 300 K,people just don't take a company seriously,investment-wise.

Interesting - I was re-reading the last RNS. According to it he says (McG) that he wants his wife to hold the shares as a "long term" tax planning strategy! What that means (to me anyway) is that he expects the shares to rise in value......

I would presume that the plan is surely still to get the shareprice up from this level to 2p or even 3p+ before doing anything. Then the final price we would get for any remaining shares we might hold (and McGuinness might hold) would be at a reasonable level.

Yes,the market for micro-caps is totally bombed-out at present.A couple of the unlisted companies I have shares in use their shares as a form of currency - at valuations that would not be possible if those companies were listed, since sellers would force the share price down.
So if the plan is to go private, and then to sell out,I'd be inclined to agree. However, cash is tight at the moment, and buyers aren't fools - they can always refer back to the last price at which the shares were traded.Economic conditions are likely to get worse before they get better [sorry,I have to be realistic! ]
N.B. Good news might not keep the share price up for long.It might be wise to keep some back until after going private,so as to be able to say to a buyer 'that wasn't in the price'.

Well it's confusing to say the least. But when my partner phoned the MD he talked about some prospective American companies possibly buying out the company. He said that in his opinion the company is worth far more then the present shareprice suggests. Perhaps they would be more interested in an unlisted company? Anyway whatever happens I'm sure that we would get a much better price for our shares?

Thanks,Battyman2,I've just skimmed through it.It is US based,of course. There are no pink sheets here. There is PLUS,and one or two market-matching services.
CGX certainly fulfils the requirements for going private,.I'd prefer PLUS to going private.Let's see what the company says.

Hi,Battyman2.I pasted the link to the address field, but it came back page not found. Is that what you meant? My email address is nonteadrinker@yahoo.co.uk
To be fair to the company,Dina,an Aim listing could be an expensive luxury for it in these tough times. However,if it goes,it may not be easy to get back.I have shares in three companies that were supposed to get listed eventually. They still aren't,and it doesn't look like happening any time soon.Since none of them pay a dividend, even if they do well, what good will it do me?

Well we're holding back on buying any more shares until we know if this going private thing is going to be a good or a bad thing for private investors!

By the way, surely going private would involved buying out us existing shareholders at a premium to the present SP?

shakyhands: you based in the US?

If you cut and paste the link into your browser, a download box will appear. Download the file to your desktop. If that doesn't work let me have an email address and I'll send you the downloaded powerpoint file.

Dina,I'm not really keen on the idea of Chromogenex going private whilst we're still shareholders. It could save some money by transferring to plus if necessary..Let's hope it isn't though.

safman - good point but remembering that McGuinness holds nearly 30 million shares in this company (or his wife does according to this latest RNS) surely he would shoot himself in the foot by delisting?

I find today's RNS interesting - IMHO the reason for the share transfer into his wife's name means that he expects their value to rise very suddenly fairly soon??

i think you guys better clarify, whether, taking it private meant delisting or buying the company whole.. very different..

battyman2

Taking the company private would certainly make it a more attractive purchase. The buyer would not be saddled with AIM regulations and shareholder demands, etc. IMO though the buyout price would be lower. Wouldn't be suprised if most shareholders would accept as little as 2 - 3p right now!

Dina - Did he give any timeframe for the buyout?

Well we got hold of the MD. Export sales have been excellent and they are working on a trading update at this moment. He expects the company to achieve profitability again this year.

He spoke about possibly taking the company private in order to make it an attractive take-over target. Don't know if that would be a good thing for us private investors??
