Arthur-Lane-Stocks....They would have been happy with a quid considering the liabilities and monies realised on the property sale.

Personally I think the delay in results is a crossing the t's and dotting the i's exercise to ensure the land/building sale is included in last years accounts. Price was very fair value 2-3 months ago and as there has only been news saying they are on track with plans and no further profit warnings I'm very happy holding at an average of 4p.

+ point wall paper is becoming more fashionable

- point american automobile industry still shrinking, although CPL say they are making inroads into new areas.

Am keen to see how the eastern european market and new business in Russia is going.

masurenguy... I agree with you, at first glance it did look like a total basket case, but I did some digging on the fibres division. Whether they can deliver on the value depends on the next set of actions.

arthur.
LDSG; we must agree to disagree. claesson/gyllenhammer [concert party] bought the bulk of there holding at-40pence plus. now at an adjusted -35 pence i dont imagine they are much in profit, and on an opportunity cost basis over 10 years are down big time.
agreed on CPL. have you looked at DWSN ?

cg1953, I keep telling you LDSG has not been a failure for PG, he bough most of his holding from Equitable Life for 13.5p. He'll more than double his money there i'm sure. I can't be so sure about JC though.

I think there's a good chance these are up sh*t creek, but they might just have enough property to sell to bail themselves out. It looks too risky to me though at the moment.

gyllenhammer's involvement/investment is no cause for joy or recovery in cpl fortunes.
his list of failures is almost as long as his pedestrian succeses, as all those that have held LDSG,YOR[rip], and many others, over many years, can attest.

How did you arrive at a 'fair value' figure of 12p - 14p ? That's circa £26m which is more than triple the current market cap of £8m for a company that lost £7.5m on sales of £57m at the half year. This was subsequently followed by a negative trading statement on H2 prospects earlier this year.

The BS is awful with nearly £13m of bank debt and their main tangible assets are in property, plant and equipment (£30m) which would probably be worth less than a third of that amount if they needed to be liquidated.

Their only salvation is reduce debt by selling the Coatings and Umbrella Frames businesses and then focus on trying to develop the Fibres business. Delayed results either mean that there are further problems in the pipeline or that they are trying to close the sale of one of the Coating or Umbrella divisions which would prop up the post audited BS.

This one did intrigue me so had a look in more detail. Fair value in the region of 12p-14p. Took me a while to find out what interested Gyllenhammer.

One ugly company. There may be something in Gyllenhammer but with the debt and losses squeezing the life out of it, it needs some drastic surgery by Goodman asap. All three legs of the business look unatractive, just about the only small positive I can see is the upsurge in popularity of wallcoverings in the uk.
Add market cap and debt and it still looks expensive without some news on restructure.
Its one of those where capable hands can bring new life or assets get sold until the company eventually slides under. Great for the watchlist but never worth putting money in until the strategy is laid out and the turnaround becomes evident

Any views on what the FY results on July 12 might uncover? These seems cheap against NAV!

Thanks Mas seems like a good idea although i will keep an eye on any trades as i think the fibres business may be wanted by another Co.
Just my guess.

I would wait for the results in June, or an earlier trading update, to see whether they are making any progress in the Fibres division and/or any tangible developments towards the disposal of the Umbella Frames operation.

To clarify if you do your research on leslie Goodman you will have found out that he has a strong record of successfully initiating and implementing deals either aquasitions or disposals to add value to the shareholders. Infact I can't find a company in the last 20 years where within 12 months he hasn't disposed of or aquired large percentages of companies. In all cases they have been proactive investments in adding share holder value ie Viatel disposal of poor margin european network, Ace global stratergies orchestration of takeover of UK arm by others. Yes some have resulted in a controlled shrinking of companies to make them profitable but I can't find a forced bancruptcy against him as chairman in the last 20 years.

PG has raised holding since appointment as have UBS so feel happy with holding and watching this one unfold, looking for 6-7p at least by the end of the year.

well said.
michaelmouse clearly takes delight in being gratuitously rude and ill informed on many threads.

Masurenguy - "It seems michaelmouse doesn't understand the difference between a voluntary winding up, with a surplus distribution to members, compared with an involuntary winding up with unpaid creditors, which is usually as a result of some form of insolvency."

Chapelthorpe made an interim loss of about £7.5m followed by an equally horrendous trading statement. Indeed the company's results and prospects are so poor it makes it look as if business is booming at CHUK by comparison.

That said CPL have net current assets equivalent to 6.8p and net assets of 12.8p (although £4m is goodwill and I'm not sure of the mix with the £30m of fixed assets in property, plant and equipment).

As far as I can see the share price dipped to about 2.5p recently and has since spiked up. Although of course you will have missed the low since you were just watching, apparently, despite starting the thread.

Now if you had done your research properly you may have snapped a few up at 2.5p given the balance sheet. Worth a quick punt of anybody's money. Your Chairman may find himself as a voluntary wind up merchant (in the true sense of the word) again whether he likes it or not. Indeed, perhaps that's why they brought him in in the first place. I was hoping you could have worked that one out for yourself.

Some advice. If you start a thread at least keep up to date with the news items.

Finally, name calling and banning me from your thread is an act of desperation when you have been exposed for what you are. You remind me of the Knight in "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". However, I've already chopped your arms and legs off and now I must move on in my quest. No doubt you will still be shouting after me.

Bye Bye.
Michael.

These are the posts you are missing for Masurenguy's thread, they also appear on the CHUK thread with his responses:-

If anybody would like a CHUKle (get it?) go to the CPL thread where Masurenguy has removed my post.

His reply was "Michaelmouse-irrelevant". This was the same post as 386 on this thread.

Strange response from somebody who doesn't hold any shares in the company.

LOL.

Michael.
