This is very concerning and I agree with Casual not very good businesses here. I am quite relieved I (luckily) managed to disperse around 75% of my holding in the high 30's price range.

Kyrgyz Republic: Statement by the High Representative/Vice-President Josep Borrell Brussels, 15/10/2020 - 19:31, Statements by the HR/VP The European Union takes note of the resignation earlier today of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sooronbay Jeenbekov, after the recent invalidation of the parliamentary elections in the country. It is vital that the President’s powers and competences are exercised within the legal framework of the Kyrgyz constitution, respecting the Kyrgyz Republic’s international commitments, including the rule of law, human rights and fundamental freedoms. The reported transfer of presidential powers by the Speaker to the Prime Minister, Sadyr Japarov, raises serious questions in this regard. The Kyrgyz Republic is a parliamentary democracy, and the division of powers therein should be respected and preserved. The European Union is engaged, in particular through its EU Special Representative for Central Asia and its EU Delegation to the Kyrgyz Republic, in contacts with all political forces in the country, as well as the wider international community. I call on all political forces in the Kyrgyz Republic to engage in a constructive and inclusive dialogue, with the full involvement of civil society and having firmly in mind the legitimate demands of the Kyrgyz people, paving the way for new, free and fair parliamentary and presidential elections in line with international standards and under the OSCE/ODIHR’s observation. The Kyrgyz Republic's democratic path has brought stability, economic growth and significant opportunities and benefits directly to Kyrgyz citizens. It is in that context that the EU and the Kyrgyz Republic concluded an Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement in 2019, while the EU also grants unilateral trade preferences to the country. The European Union fully supports the Kyrgyz Republic’s democratic progress, and has confidence that it will be safeguarded in the days and weeks ahead.

The head of the Cabinet of Ministers came to the protesters and announced that he was now acting President of Kyrgyzstan. “Dear, I congratulate you on your victory. Everything fell into place today. The ex-president resigned, the speaker of parliament Kanat Isaev did not begin to fulfill his duties. Now the responsibilities of the president and prime minister have passed to me. I thank you for your trust, ”Sadyr Zhaparov said. He urged the audience to disperse. Let us remind you that Sooronbai Jeenbekov resigned. According to the Constitution, the acting head of state becomes the speaker of the parliament, Kanat Isaev. The latter refused to act as president. And about. A lot of politicians in Kyrgyzstan end up in prison on trumped up charges so it's hard to say what he's truly guilty of but what seems clear is that the only way he has managed to become prime minister during the recent upheaval is because the protesters supporting him used mob violence. His supporters are currently violently protesting for the dissolution of parliament. Not sure where Russia is in this. I hope they still have a measure of control. If the president resigning etc is happening *despite* Russian pressure and the withholding of financial aid then perhaps that's a sign that Kyrgyzstan could be on a wild ride.

The Kyrgyz president bites the dust, resigned earlier today. Looks like he may have lost support from Putin, given Russia's withdrawal of financial support. I wonder if the new PM will now be put forward as new president. The "revolution" has been hijacked by thuggish mobs and the dark money that's paying for mobilising them (literally bussing them into the capital to protest). The peaceful protesters who took to the streets in the hope for modernisation seem to have been sidelined. But....still early days.

Compared with Trump, Biden and family are angels! Trump and family are as dirty as dirt can be. Should he lose he is going to be tied up in court cases for the rest of his life.

Looks like the political stalemate in Kyrgyzstan may quickly resolve itself: Russia have announced they suspended all financial support to Kyrgyzstan until things get back to normal. hTTps://kaktus.media/doc/423602_rossiia_priostanovila_finansovyu_pomosh_kyrgyzstany.html Not sure who they are trying to help, the new PM or the old president.

This from AAZ just now could be relevant for Chaarat also: "Full Year 2020 ("FY 2020") production guidance is currently under review following some minor delays in the underground development arising from the effects of the Azeri and Armenian conflict due to the conscription of a number of engineering staff and some recently encountered temporary delays due to underground rock faulting o An estimated five to ten per cent. reduction may be required from the current guidance of 75,000 to 80,000 GEOs o The Company will announce revised guidance on completion of the review"

The real power is held by the president as he commands the military etc, so will be interesting what happens there. It may be that picking Japarov as PM was a way to secure the position of the current president who said he would stand down next couple of days but may yet find a way to cling on now. This is a fairly decent write-up: hTTps://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/10/world/asia/kidnapper-kyrgyzstan-prime-minister.html

Unfortunately that is what happens sometimes in early stage democracies and is not helped when elections are not transparent, free and fair. (America take heed!) I suspect that this story has further to go.

A new PM has been appointed in Kyrgyzstan: Sadyr Japarov. He was sprung out of jail by a faction of the protesters this week. He's affiliated with the ultra-nationalists and 8 years ago was one of the loudest voices calling for Kumtor to be nationalised. Looks like mob rule may have won the day in Kyrgyzstan. From fledgling democracy now edging towards kleptocracy?

The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan is still raging but the foreign ministers of each are on their way to Moscow for talks. Agenda being cessation of hostilities and providing time to remove the dead from the battlefield. Meanwhile, the Kyrgyzstan election commission has announced it will decide on the date for the do-over elections by 6th November. Lots of factions have emerged in recent days, each trying to stake a claim on power by e.g. proposing their own man as replacement for prime minister. Some of the candidates could be promising for business (Babanov), others are just puppets for the same old vested interests (e.g. billionaire mafia boss). So looks like Kyrgyzstan will rumble on for a few more weeks.
