Had to subscribe for that article. You owe me £8 Dave. I'm guessing the £8 plus a ray of hope was the dealbreaker for printing that out !!!!Off to the cinema now. I'll leave you to him.

Who might be bold enough to buy Centrica?

Oliver Shah

Two years before the financial crisis and a decade before Brexit, 2006 was a different time. When an apparatchik at Gazprom said an acquisition of Centrica was “being analysed and examined” by the Russian state energy giant — sending the British Gas owner’s shares 25% higher — Tony Blair’s government indicated that it would not stand in the way. With a glibness redolent of the era, then trade and industry secretary Alan Johnson remarked: “Whatever the difficulties and challenges of globalisation, the answers will not be found in the stagnant waters of protectionism.”

Come on over, comrades.

A takeover of Britain’s former energy monopoly by the Russians or Chinese would be unthinkable today — but would a takeover in itself be out of the question?

No problem.Have to take the numbers in the article with a pinch of salt, it was based on research by a competitor and the CMA threshold from 3 years ago. The price difference for BG also doesn't add up, one minute they say £222 overcharge, then £285 but the difference on the prices they give is £276. Think they mean the price difference is £276 less £63 is an overcharge of £213.Also, the reason BG has the greatest cost difference is that it offers the cheaper normal tariff.Does anyone know what the current CMA rules are?, allowing for inflation I'm guessing it's more like £69 difference now between cheaper tariff and prepay, but that's still a big chunk of income that Ofgem/CMA may now be honing in on (it's in a few press articles today).

DD,
So what? A lot of people probably over 70% are not hell bent on trying to save money and just accept the charges and maybe have a bit of a moan to their spouse and keep on paying it! Not everyone are going on Money saving expert and trying to alter their bills, so that comment of yours is rather dense!

"According to the company, 760,000 British Gas prepay customers are paying £222 more a year than they need and 320,000 Npower prepay homes pay £160 more than required. Eon prepay customers pay £51 a year more than they need."Https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/vulnerable-households-overpaying-energy-250m-230100544.html
