Centrica are obliged to install meters due to government policy, this is why there are conditions in Centrica's latest deals for them to meet targets. Come on disco let's see both side's of the story. Damned if you do,Damned if you don't.

Also in today's Times:British Gas: get a smart meter or we'll charge you an extra £300Britain's largest energy firm is refusing to offer its cheapest deal to customers unless they agree to have a smart meter installed.

Hello hifc,Brrrr -1, never imagined it could get sub zero.Think you would have to be very bold to consider acquiring CNA at the moment, particularly with current political uncertainty. All the best.

Hi DD, Western Australia & sadly not we get up to -1 at night here during winter and when houses don't have double glazing or central heating its feels cold believe me. A Rise in Centrica's price would help warm me up a bit ....lol

No problem.UK Home energy is not the place to be in terms of growth, that's why SSE are offloading.Agree Conn knows that but IMO isn't doing enough to diversify their offerings. Whilst 2.5% churn is lower than it has been in the past it's still too high. It's c £210m direct hit on gross revenue but it's also the cumulative potential hit on additional offerings - pull out all the stops to keep the customers for energy but provide a one-stop-shop strategy for growth. Possibly JV with water, telecoms, mobile, etc etc.Anyway, another lovely day to enjoy. All the best.

Thanks for sharing DD: Looks like they need to focus outside of the UK for growth as the UK domestic sector looks to tight and very little potential for growth. Least the CONN Man recognizes this and also the fact that combining service/products together gets better returns................ If the Commy threat would just disappear and get Brexit out the way this share in a few years (2-3) could be back about the 2 pound mark.

Iain Conn (Houston Chronicle, 24/5/19):"We are very focused on acquiring and retaining all customers of course, and one of the biggest challenges is the churn rate of about 2.5 percent a month.""We are in established markets for energy so we're in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Alberta and the lower 48 in the U.S., mainly concentrated around the Northeast and in Texas. And what you've seen over time is that the unit margins for just selling energy have been coming down. Typically they're 6 percent to 16 percent of gross margin but with services, it's typically 20 percent to 40 percent. So people are willing to pay more for them because they give customers what they need and want rather than just a straight-forward commodity. We expect that business to grow."
