capeview2 Mar '18 - 10:10 - 9767 of 9769 0 0 0 Mercer, could it be that one person can send 10,000 emails but not have the time to answer 10,000 calls all at once?? I had to smile at that, as I just sent out 2000 to one email database yesterday with a click of a mouse. Actually it was several different emails depending on the user data. Amazing what technology can do ! The only people that phone are the PPI and claims lot and I happily waste their time for them while working on the PC. If everyone did that, their viability would be shot - there should be a campaign for it...

I'm really happy about that. I think the last 2 buys where token gestures. This purchase I believe has some significance. imho

Mercer, could it be that one person can send 10,000 emails but not have the time to answer 10,000 calls all at once?? It makes sense that if you have a serious problem, use the website to get a problem started, which will hopefully get sent to the people who sort it, as opposed to trying to get hold of someone in a call center who might not actually be there because they can't get in. Although, if the phones are working, they could work from home. :)

I had an email from Homeserve this morning saying they were extremely busy...not surprising! and it could be quicker to contact them via their website.

"But what makes our situation so much worse is the shockingly cavalier decision in August last year to permanently shut down Britain's biggest and only significant storage facility for gas at Rough on the Yorkshire coast. The result is that we have no capacity to hold gas reserves for precisely such a crisis as the current one. The operators of the 32-year-old storage facility, British Gas owner Centrica, said when they closed it that the condition of the Rough facility had deteriorated and restoring it would be uneconomic. Centrica's boss, the veteran oil industry titan Iain Conn, told me he could not justify pouring in the hundreds of millions of pounds it would cost. He would have to recoup the refurbishment costs by charging more for gas released from storage, but the availability of cheap gas around the world meant that the big energy suppliers would not be willing to pay for it. You can sort of understand his reasoning on commercial grounds: he is, after all, the chief executive of a major public company who needed to balance the interests of shareholders against those of consumers. Yet the decision has proved catastrophic in terms of our energy security — which is so vital, in turn, to our economic and national security." http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-5452643/A-gas-shortage-searing-indictment-ministers.html

Bad night on the Dow. Reaction of Trump announcing steep tariffs on Steel & Aluminium imports and the threat of countermeasures from Europe sending Wall Street plunging. Ft looks like starting at the moment at -42 but that will alter with the Asian markets in the morning

Whatup32 would not agree with you more, as atleast for gas and lecky you only pay for what you use, unlike the council tax.

As luck would have it just received a renewal notice from my energy supplier EDF .blue + plan £1022 to £1150 for the standard variable tariff. Hardly earth shattering spread Checked with Uswitch for exactly the same British Gas was £144 cheaper . Or £200 cheaper from some cuddly green company that may go under in a few months. Can someone tell me what the big deal is that it warrants debates in parliament , threats of nationalisation. Few months ago I had a renewal from Aviva . Not having ever claimed and always seeing renewals go up I did a search on line to find General Insurance? Quote some £200 cheaper which I accepted. Guess who owns General .” AVIVA ‘ Should we nationalise them maybe have a debate in parliament about why Aviva does not give their best rates to loyal customers like me who neve claim and too lazy to shop around. For £1013 per annum. I get my three bed home heated , food on the table, phones charged entertainment provided and lights on . I think it’s a fair price What is not fair is the £1,500 council tax that I have no option but to pay. No pay we’ll send in the bailiffs. What do I get for the £1500. Once a week they collect my bag of rubbish. But not this week as there is snow. Phew... feel better now

"National Grid has already paid one unnamed major gas-user around six times the usual price of gas to cut their demand later today, which has helped to reduce the shortfall from 54 million cubic metres to around 35 million cubic meters." https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2018/03/01/big-freeze-stretches-uk-gas-supplies-snow-forecast/

I don't think it will make any difference until the next lots of results come out unless of course we hear some other news coming from Centrica as to what they are doing in the industry to make there business grow.
