Mercer, I'm amazed at all the people stuck on the roads when they knew it was coming. Unless there is a real need to go out, because of how we handle things in this country due to the lack of this kind of weather, city dwellers really should stay home. The country bumpkins definitely handle it better. lol My partner had to go to work yesterday as she is a school teacher, but the main roads near us are no where near as bad as those seen on the News. But not knowing how the weather was going to be today, all the schools are closed near us now because of some of the bad side roads around that really need to be gritted. Thankfully the weather hasn't been as bad near us as some places but still quite cold.

Yump, I used to hate talking to useless call center staff that couldn't think for themselves and just followed a script. Most of the time I would tell them, I work in the IT industry and still do to an extent and know how to use and build PC's as well as check out all my hardware, and the fact I know all the wiring in the house because I installed it, I know it was either there hardware or something external to my property. And they would go on and ask me to do various tests. It was the final nail in the coffin for Virgin, that and there TV service which I was getting fed up with the TV boxes constantly failing. Now I just have BT with Fibre and Phone line and never a problem other than the odd Modem drop out because some engineer is probably working in a local box or the box has just had a firmware update. Just wish they would do the FW updates during the sleeping hours.

I see your point capeview, I didn’t read the previous message so I took it out of context, I thought it was a general response they give out, my boiler packed up, pressure dropped, topped up via the filling loop, easy fix, some people are just clueless nowadays when it comes to basic stuff I’m sorry to say, people stranded on the motorways a perfect example, the weather was well flagged up.

I'm just waiting for Virgin helpline to move up one star from being useless. I think its around 5 times now that when broadband has been down and I phone to find out what the problem is or how long it will take to fix, they tell me there is a problem (which I've just told them) and then proceed to tell me that I can check online to see what the current status is.

Mercer, all we have to remember is that we don't get this kind of weather often and as has seen this time it has caught a lot of people out with large traffic queues stuck for whole days. If those same people are those who are taking your calls, who do they phone when they need saving, the RAC or AA only to find out the guy next to them is the guy from that call center. :) I sometimes think having a bit of knowledge on how to fix things yourselves is far better than constantly relying on others to do everything for you, who sometimes actually make things worse.

capeview2 Mar '18 - 10:10 - 9767 of 9769 0 0 0 Mercer, could it be that one person can send 10,000 emails but not have the time to answer 10,000 calls all at once?? I had to smile at that, as I just sent out 2000 to one email database yesterday with a click of a mouse. Actually it was several different emails depending on the user data. Amazing what technology can do ! The only people that phone are the PPI and claims lot and I happily waste their time for them while working on the PC. If everyone did that, their viability would be shot - there should be a campaign for it...

Mercer, could it be that one person can send 10,000 emails but not have the time to answer 10,000 calls all at once?? It makes sense that if you have a serious problem, use the website to get a problem started, which will hopefully get sent to the people who sort it, as opposed to trying to get hold of someone in a call center who might not actually be there because they can't get in. Although, if the phones are working, they could work from home. :)

"But what makes our situation so much worse is the shockingly cavalier decision in August last year to permanently shut down Britain's biggest and only significant storage facility for gas at Rough on the Yorkshire coast. The result is that we have no capacity to hold gas reserves for precisely such a crisis as the current one. The operators of the 32-year-old storage facility, British Gas owner Centrica, said when they closed it that the condition of the Rough facility had deteriorated and restoring it would be uneconomic. Centrica's boss, the veteran oil industry titan Iain Conn, told me he could not justify pouring in the hundreds of millions of pounds it would cost. He would have to recoup the refurbishment costs by charging more for gas released from storage, but the availability of cheap gas around the world meant that the big energy suppliers would not be willing to pay for it. You can sort of understand his reasoning on commercial grounds: he is, after all, the chief executive of a major public company who needed to balance the interests of shareholders against those of consumers. Yet the decision has proved catastrophic in terms of our energy security — which is so vital, in turn, to our economic and national security." http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-5452643/A-gas-shortage-searing-indictment-ministers.html

Bad night on the Dow. Reaction of Trump announcing steep tariffs on Steel & Aluminium imports and the threat of countermeasures from Europe sending Wall Street plunging. Ft looks like starting at the moment at -42 but that will alter with the Asian markets in the morning

Whatup32 would not agree with you more, as atleast for gas and lecky you only pay for what you use, unlike the council tax.
