We sure are running out of gas and not just of the natural type. Hopefully will the government will realise they need to save UK plc not kill it. Job losses in the news every day now, is this the British dream?

porto, just been out shifting snow, can't get to the gym today so thought I'd do a bit of exercise that way. Hope it's cleared up for the Cheltenham meet.
Have friends who have train passes and one that's especially for two people, they get some very cheap travel if they pick their times right.

Morning Porto, will this mean that if the cap was in place that it would be lifted or would CNA just have to sell at a loss! This capping business will take some sorting out, although in the summer the MP's won't be able to see any problems with the cold weather and gas supplies.

National Grid has issued a warning that the UK will not have enough gas to meet demand on Thursday, as temperatures plummeted and imports were hit by outages.

It is thought unlikely that the situation will affect supply to households, but if enough extra gas supplies by pipeline or ship are not forthcoming, it could affect industrial users.
Within-day wholesale gas prices soared 74% to 200p per therm after the formal deficit warning, which acts as a call to suppliers to bring forward more gas on Thursday. Prices hav

WJ, I just wish I had more spare cash to buy more but just don't have it so will have to wait on Dividends and then possibly reinvest or just pay some bills.

So for now will have to wait for break even point of around £1.70's i think.

Optomistic, 18deg here is more than comfortable and we live in a 3 bed End terrace at the bottom of the road in a dip. It gets the wind big time on our end.

Just checking our last 3 bills, average was around £108 for both. It could be less if I didn't let the kids watch my big TV all the time, as that is a huge drain on Electric buts it a great TV. :)

Cape yes i have been thinking the same re-insulation but the big government
push handing out free insulation and efficient boilers is about 6 yeas back now
so the effect should be in the share price

i have been buying more, had to sell a few of my ISAT but i feel this is now
a safer stock. and i only originally set up my ISA as a dividend earner, been taking
a few risks of late need to get back on track with the summer coming, as i will
be away from laptop.

18deg capeview....you won't come to any harm but that's not a high comfort zone, well not for me, we are at 22deg or a bit more through the day/evening but down a lot at night when we are in bed. My last three monthly gas+elec usage has been £130/month. Three bedroom bungalow and all rooms heated.

True WJ.

But insulation can also impact there future for reasons above which is why I think there other energy businesses are a good idea for the future. Making money all year long as opposed to just waiting for Winter.

I suppose we're all just fed up of being kept in the dark over the past few months with a real lack of effort from the BoD and the poor performance of that share price.

Lets just hope it's a good turn around over the next few years.

Cape

i think what we are all trying to say is Conn blamed some of the poor performance
on the warmer than normal winter last year, well this winter as a whole has been much colder than normal. So all CNA shareholders should be in the money this year/ next

I know what you were saying Diku, don't worry. I'm quite happy for CNA customers to pay more for there energy needs which will hopefully improve our share price.

I'm not currently with CNA because there prices are far more than what I'm already getting. The only thing I may do is take out there boiler cover which looks quite good, but have yet to decide as my old one just lapsed as no longer competitive.

I'm just happy to pay less while others pay more and hopefully gets us a nice share increase at there expense and not mine. lol

The point I am also making is that the heating stays on longer due to the cold snap....CNA benefits...that is if their customers are not leaving...if it stays above 140p it could unwind all the way back to 190 - 200p...with a takeover speculation...do-able...

diku, I do have TRV's and a room stat. And underfloor insulation in our front room. Not had a chance to finish the rest of the house as we're living in it and funds are tight right now, but I can say our heating is far less than it used to be when we had the big freeze during 2010 and 2011, when none of the insulation was done.

I could set the boiler to come on a certain times, but at this time choose to leave it on set temp of 18 degrees. Like I said, its quite comfortable here, just probably not as nice as WJ's house. ;)

Thats the point WJ, your house doesn't need heating when average temp is 6 degrees, where as mine does because your insulation is so good, so the heating you have to do on a day like today is offset by all those days you don't need it.

So insulation makes a huge difference to your heating bill.

I never said heating wasn't needed, just that not as much would be needed if Insulation was well done, as your house proves. ;)

The boiler comes on from time to time is because you must have a room stat...or temperature controls at the boiler...hope you also got TRV's with lockshield on rads......

even the best insulated homes like the one i built where we are currently living
will be using minimum 50% more energy today, than an average winters day.

on a winters day average temp 6 degrees we do not need to light the log burner
until 18.00 hrs temp stays min 20 degrees from night before 24 degrees.

even a thermos flask goes cold after 16 hrs

diku, I didn't say you wouldn't have your heating on, I said it depends on how well insulated your house is which determines how little heating you need. Once our house is heated, it hardly uses any Gas and the boiler comes on from time to time, overall though it uses very little heating.

And you can have your house very well insulated and depending on the systems you have in place with Air Flow and Heat Extraction system, you can reduce the condensation build up. Even insulation on walls can improve the loss of heat.

Also, depending on the type of window systems you have installed you can reduce the heat loss even further.

So yes, insulation can make a huge difference to whether your heating is continuously on, or hardly at all.

Regardless of how well insulated your house is heating will still be on...most properties leak heat via windows/doors/loft...if you don't have heating on you will have condensation problems on windows/walls...
