22/8/2022 20:06 | Agreed. There is a solution to inflation, strikes and the energy crisis. Cap the energy prices at £2,500 or £3,000. Government take the hit as a cost of "war". It partly pays for itself as economy picks up, public sector salary demands stop etc. etc. Actually, Kier Starmer was there already albeit I think that bills still need pushing up to £2,500 as a price signal to reduce consumption + pay awards get capped at no more than half the inflation rate as a compromise. Just my thoughts, but I would have thought the country could pull together on such a policy. | topvest

22/8/2022 09:28 | Gas price has just hit 550p a therm. About another £1k on the price cap in the last hour. Energy markets will need to be changed before 1 January to remove all prices being based on the gas price as the marginal producer imho. | topvest

20/8/2022 20:59 | Just a thought, but Centrica are going to have to manage their working capital very closely, along with all the energy suppliers. With wholesale prices x10 versus 2020 already the amounts are simply enormous. Do they have sufficient credit lines in place? Its getting to the stage where governments are going to have to step in. This is bigger than the 70s fuel crisis, not that I was old enough to remember. I think Starmer's £29bn package at £1,000 per household has already tripled in the last few weeks. Businesses will need to be bailed out as well. Covid mark 2 hand-outs or massive recession in Europe? Personally, I think Starmer is way ahead of the Conservative thinking and will be proven correct in the end although it pains me to support a labour policy! How many households can afford c£1k a month on energy bills and what will that do to the inflationary death spiral are the 2 questions that aren't being answered. We are sleepwalking into disaster! Anyway, with Nord stream 1 to be shut-off at the end of August by Putin and September gas silly season fast approaching this is a ticking time bomb. Sorry to be negative but that's the way its looking and its deeply concerning. | topvest
20/8/2022 20:33 | 'We know times are hard… NOT for your CEO!': Customers blast British Gas over 'condescending' cost-of-living email on when government's £400 will kick in to ease bills burden Email was sent to customers to explain rollout of Energy Bills Support Scheme It shows a woman in distress alongside a caption: 'More support is on the way' British Gas parent company Centrica saw £1.34bn profits in first half of this year By Laurence Dollimore For Mailonline Published: 19:27 BST, 18 August 2022 | Updated: 19:45 BST, 18 August 2022 Fed-up bill payers have blasted British Gas for a 'condescending' cost-of-living email in which the energy giant told its customers: 'We know times are really hard' - just weeks after its parent company posted bumper half-year profits of £1.34 billion. The energy firm, owned by Centrica, had contacted customers to let them know how they will receive the government's upcoming £400 payout via the Energy Bills Support Scheme (EBSS). The grant is designed to help the average household tackle soaring energy costs, as watchdog Ofgem is expected to set the price cap at £3,586 in October, before rising it again to a predicted £4,266 in January. It comes after inflation officially hit 10.1 per cent in July, a new 40-year high, while the rapidly rising cost of food and other everyday items has led experts to predict some 18 million households will struggle to pay their energy bills in the coming months. British Gas, which services more than seven million homes across the UK, revealed that as part of the EBSS, its customers will see between £66 and £67 taken off their monthly bills between October 2022 and March next year. However the amounts will not be automatically deducted, but paid back into the homeowner's account 'a few days' after they pay what they owe in full. But in a 'tone deaf' email sent to bill payers explaining the policy, a woman can be seen in clear distress while appearing to look at a bill, as a caption next to her reads: 'More support is on the way.' | waldron

16/8/2022 09:11 | i,ve posted this here as CNA is going to be playing a major role in the upcoming disaster if gov follow through, and it will compromise CNA ability to deal with the damage, mro. Theres a lot of possibilities in his post and looking at the gov non response and making people fearful again, covid first now on to another front,as said previously fuel is the common denominator of just about everything we do in life, even this post, mro, Why aren’t politicians talking about the economic meltdown that we are facing this winter? Posted on August 16 2022 This comes from ‘Surviving 2023’, which I published yesterday. In this section, from Chapter 1, I imagine what will happen if the government does not. | mroalan
15/8/2022 11:47 | I actually think its a good policy for the conservatives to pinch, but ignoring the back-dated windfall tax. Without some control of energy prices this winter inflation is going to get way out of control. The conservatives will have to do something like it to avoid everything going pear shaped as we are heading to £5k+ energy bills otherwise. | topvest

13/8/2022 06:55 | Centrica enters into $8.5bn LNG purchase agreement with Delfin Oil & GasMidstreamContract By NS Energy Staff Writer 10 Aug 2022 Centrica would purchase one million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of LNG for 15 years on a free on board (FOB) basis starting from 2026, at the Delfin Deepwater Port, off the coast of Louisiana, US centrica-delfin_9-au Centrica to buy LNG from Delfin. (Credit: Centrica plc) UK-based energy and services company Centrica has signed a £7bn agreement with US-based Delfin Midstream to procure liquefied natural gas (LNG). Under the terms of the agreement, Centrica would purchase one million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of LNG for 15 years on a free on board (FOB) basis. The LNG supply is expected to start from 2026, at the Delfin Deepwater Port, which is located 40 nautical miles off the coast of Louisiana, US. The deal provides an opportunity for Delfin to reach a Final Investment Decision (FID) for its US floating LNG export facility by this year-end, with plans to begin operations in 2026. Delfin CEO Dudley Poston said: “We are very pleased to enter into this agreement with Centrica and continue to rapidly advance Delfin’s position as a leading source of reliable low-cost energy from the safety of the US at compelling prices. “Market demand for long-term LNG continues to be strong and buying activity from Europe and various other geographies has accelerated over the past few months. “As a modular project that can make FID in 3.5 MTPA increments, this agreement materially advances our first vessel’s path towards FID later this year.” Centrica said that it has been working to boost the UK and Ireland’s energy security, in a challenging geopolitical and macroeconomic environment. Last month, the company signed a £4bn supply agreement with Equinor to procure LNG for additional 4.5 million UK homes through to 2025. Together with the current agreement with Delfin, its deals would support the expansion of US LNG export capacity, an important source of reliable future gas supply, said Centrica. Centrica Group chief executive Chris O’Shea said: “Natural gas has now been recognised as an essential transition fuel on the path to net zero just at the point geopolitical uncertainty is impacting the global gas market. “Additional US gas export capacity will help increase the UK, European and global energy security, reflecting the increasing importance of LNG in the global gas supply chain. “I’m delighted to sign this Heads of Agreement with Delfin as we continue to deliver our new strategy, growing Centrica’s LNG portfolio and ensuring that we increase our access to a diversified range of reliable gas supplies for our customers.” Last month, Delfin finalised an LNG sale and purchase agreement with Vitol to supply 0.5 MTPA on a FOB basis for 15 years. | sarkasm
