Soon these will start to pick up momentum and breakout traders, look a no brainer to me and over weight to point of 50% of my portfolio, looking to bag quickly and get back into the top 100 within 16 months.
Even if lock down happens again these will still win, still nuclear to be really factored in and assets to ditch and add to the balance sheet.

I,m confused here, say prices have doubled but the cap remains how does a gas co manage to stay in business? perhaps hedged at a previous price? but if it keeps rising above there hedge what then?

This gas price spike is a game changer.
Many of the smaller cowboys are going bust.

Operating from their garage in some cases these cowboys were encouraged to buy cheap gas on the spot market and undercut the big players.
These spivs won over millions of new customers, never bothered to hedge, no overheads.

Now they are deservedly going bust.
Already the Government are talking of a windfall tax on large companies who only a few months ago they were trying to destroy.

The public will have to learn that even if they are poor, gas prices are going up.
That is the realty of living in World where the population is 7bn+ and many are suffering from energy poverty.

I am holding Centrica, at last it may be appreciated.

True story. Part of me also thinks that people will now stick to the big 6 than to take risks going with alternatives.

priteshpatel9 you would think they would leave but not necessary, people become very complacent in life and are lazy. Also they will be comforted with knowing Centrica is the one of the biggest suppliers out there and the chances of it folding are slim.

How do they benefit? These are customers who will leave in the first instance as they'll be put on poor tariffs to begin with.

Any chance of this reinstating a dividend yet? They should certainly benefit from the increase in customers from the fly by night companies going bust?

Gone up a bit for Centrica, but over the last few days, lots of other shares with much more free movement than this restrained thing have moved a lot higher percentage wise. Centrica is still stuck in this 50-55p rut and probably will be until the 16th November when the market decides up or down based on their strategy.

Don't hold your breath.... come next week she will be down to 50 - 52p ish as these things never last more than a week.

Always surprises me though, that lots of other firms with more dodgy financials are back to their pre-plandemic prices, yet Centrica isn't back to 90-95p, even with near-zero debt.

A lot of older people, in particular, will surely be thinking about prioritizing security over price. No sense being the richest man in the graveyard.

If there were a massive flight to safety, Centrica might be able to bring forward a resumption of dividends.
