European markets set for lower open as bond moves wobble global stocks

Key Points

Last week, the U.S. 10-year yield surged to a high of 1.6% in a move that some described as a “flash” spike, but which sparked fears about stock valuations and rising inflation.

It’s another busy day for earnings in Europe, with Thales, Lufthansa, Merck, ProSiebenSat.1 and Aviva among those reporting before the bell.

Lufthansa posted a smaller-than-expected net loss in the fourth quarter but saw a full-year loss of 6.7 billion-euro ($8.1 billion) in 2020.

European markets are heading for a lower open Thursday as a rise in bond yields saw jitters return to global stocks once again.

Britain’s FTSE 100 is seen around 67 points lower at 6,608, Germany’s DAX is set to fall by around 118 points to 13,662 and France’s CAC 40 is expected to open around 41 points lower at 5,789, according to IG data.

I knew there was another vote but hadn’t picked up on when it closes.

Judging by the posts on Twitter I think it’s fair to say that they’ll rightly tell them to shove it again!

Royal Dutch Shell PLC - Shell, Centrica, SSE among 18 suppliers to hand back refunds after account switch overcharging
Eighteen gas and electricity suppliers including some of the UK’s biggest household names overcharged more than one million customers switching accounts between 2013 and 2020, regulator Ofgem said today.

The regulator said people switching should be protected from price rises while moving their business, but errors during the switchover process led to

Eighteen suppliers made errors leading to overcharging of £7.2mln.

Some of the biggest names were the worst offenders said Ofgem, with Ovo and Shell (LON:RDSB) among the worst offenders alongside British Gas 9LON:CNA), E.On, EDF, Npower, Scottish Power, SSE (LON:SSE) and Octopus.

Customers are in line for refunds with companies making compensation payments taking the total to £10.4mln.

Anna Rossington, interim director of retail at Ofgem said: "Customers should have confidence in switching and not be overcharged when doing so.

"This case sends a strong message to all suppliers that Ofgem will intervene where customers are overcharged and ensure that no supplier benefits from non-compliance."

Several companies reported the issue to Ofgem which then asked all suppliers to check their records.

The average amount overcharged was £6.27 though the figure could be higher on larger bills, said the regulator.”

So sorry you guys have to endure the not so CLEVERINVESTER. Well I need to share the fact that there was a real turn up for the books. The far from CLEVERINVESTER finally CONFESSED yesterday that he is a TROLL on SAGA, such is his anger at not getting his £1.80 prediction. He also makes it clear with his sidekick DIOHOHKU that they’d like COVID to continue, disgusting TROLLS that they are. How can they enjoy people being sick and gloat every time there’s a new variant. The great thing is that they are starting to get their comeuppance. CLEARLY RATTLED since last week. That’s around 60 posts between them on SAGA today. Yet more proof of that desperation they’re suffering from.
