Reduced my holding by 50% over the last week - no longer comfortable holding such a large position with the increased political risk in Kazakhstan from the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The downside of higher metals prices is that the Kazakh president has proposed higher taxes for miners.

CAML's portfolio of metals at all time high today, beating the total from 18.10.21. The fall of the Tenge and Denar against the dollar lowering costs also helping. CAML cannot do anything about the hit to sentiment caused by events in Kazakhstan and Ukraine, but its financial strength means it is in a position to significantly increase shareholder returns. With the SASA debt repaid in 5 months, a 12p final dividend and £40 million share buyback for 2022 should help sentiment.

Copper price continues to rise. Remember we are unhedged, straight to free cash flow. Massive dividends coming.

I don't believe Putin will risk another costly conflict with another republic. He is already embroiled to the bones with Ukraine. So CAML is a safe bet thus why I took the opportunity to buy more today.

An interesting comment by poster Willhampson over on Stockopedia:

"...it's interesting that such a reaction occurred today (last week would have made much more sense). The geopolitical risk vis a vis Kaz softened over the weekend as they confirmed that they would not be sending troops to Ukraine to support Russia. They also confirmed they would not recognize the new states created by Russia. The biggest risk to Central Asia Metals (LON:CAML) operationally was that Kaz would get involved on the Russian side and then in turn be exposed to sanctions; that now appears much less likely."

As luck would have it, Momentum Investor covered CAML at the weekend:

"While investors have indiscriminately sold off small caps in a climate of fear, one that looks clearly mispriced is Central Asia Metals (CAML), one of the world’s lowest cost copper producers. Its year end 2021 update on 11 January confirmed everything is on track and I expect results at ... "

Zangdook,

Your welcome. Took me 2 minutes! And I didnt see the link ZHO provided in my search either. Perhaps that is because I do not use "Google" to search.

Agreed. My memory was hazy but clearly I was, actually, correct and the national archives evidence this.

Sad that people cannot accept this but instead engage in slippery semantics in an effort to claim I didn't say what I initially did.

Pointing out facts doesnt make one an apologist for putin either.

What is amusing though is have you noticed how the most vocal shrieking about Ukraine's nationalism and border sanctity are the same people who would deny us the very same.

The most ardent warmongers seem to only care about everyone else's nationalism/border sanctity tend to also be Remainers who'd deny the UK similar.

Still, not to worry, Masurenguy is filtered. has little of interest to say from what I've seen trawling through her posts.

Thanks for finding those links.

There's no point engaging with Masurenguy, he's cursed with that horrible combination, stupidity and arrogance.
