31/10/2024 14:18 | 1gw - safest view is that gold will prove us goldbugs right at some point, but not on our individual timetables. harry_david is right about structural deficits, but the resulting financial crisis may be some way off yet. We could be entering a period of consolidation. Or not. But my North American gold majors feel like they will be my core investments for some time to come. Stuff NVIDIA, even though they make great graphics cards. GSK, BP and the like look reasonably attractive right now as well. | arlington chetwynd talbott
31/10/2024 13:18 | My view is simple. Will I make more money staying with AngloGold or would my alternatives do better. I have already lightened off CEY slightly, luckily at slightly higher prices and reinvested in the 3 stocks I mentioned earlier, one is down and two square. I am a believer in miners as I worry about the US financial deficit which is horrifying and neither Trump or Harris seem to care. | harry_david
31/10/2024 11:44 | ACT - rather depends on your view of gold prices going forward, doesn't it? AU may well do better if the market gains confidence that it can integrate the CEY acquisition efficiently, but that gain is likely to be relatively small compared with any move related to changing views on the future gold curve, isn't it? You could always try a pairs trade going long AU and short GDX, to try to hedge the gold price curve effect. But if you fundamentally believe in increasing gold prices (as I suspect many do on this board) then you probably wouldn't want to limit your potential gains in that way. No advice intended. | 1gw
31/10/2024 11:44 | Yes, $3000 gold will cure all ills. | arlington chetwynd talbott
31/10/2024 11:39 | Arlington Yes i tend to agree with you lets see what the Q3 num2bers are we could get a boost and get out then, the other option is to hold until we get 3000 gold | taurusthebull
31/10/2024 11:39 | Any thoughts on CEY though? | arlington chetwynd talbott
31/10/2024 09:31 | Destroying farming was planned many years ago by the WEF.the government have been paying farmers not to grow food.this is part of the cbcds net zero BS credit system and total control..control the money food and water and we become slaves to a few.at the same time create chaos is illegal immigrants wars sanctions climate Haarp whilst you bring in this total communist control system...we tried to warn you .are you starting to listen yet ????? Did you take your COVID boosters ??? | paultruth
31/10/2024 09:03 | It is starting to feel as if folk like me who do not like AU will nevertheless have to hold our noses and hold AU, for a time at least, to get the best outcome here. Thoughts? | arlington chetwynd talbott
31/10/2024 08:34 | The only rational take away from the budget speech is that Reeves doesn't understand the policies her civil servants have drafted for her. She mangled her delivery so badly it wouldn't be inaccurate to say she misled the house of commons. She certainly misled the public, and a lot of the new policy is still unclear today. The taxing of pensions is moronic, and as for what she's done to farmers, I suppose she, or the people pulling her strings, actually want to destroy small farms and force UK agricultural land into the hands of big industrial farming corporations, or just concrete it over. | zangdook
31/10/2024 05:51 | Rotrader, Yes , I live in Perth, W.A and enjoyed watching it last night . great speech by the chancellor and how the Tory MPs can be critical of it after the mess they created is beyond me . But then how can a nutcase like TRUMP still attract close to 50% of the votes in USA ! As someone who supports the GREENS , I did disagree with putting bus fares up 50% and making cost of fuel less ! How does that help climate emergency ? !! | arja
30/10/2024 10:00 | I have AEM, great mining outfit, safe locations and conservative accounting. Also MTA a Canadian royalty business just making its way in the world, some great assets coming soon. Lastly STLR another Canadian, explorer with largest undeveloped prospect in a safe environment anywhere. Will be transferring into all three soon. | harry_david
30/10/2024 09:51 | Arlington re AEM tonite ”Q3'24 Earnings preview” Consensus revenue estimate is $2.11B. Consensus EPS estimate is $1.02 | geckotheglorious
30/10/2024 09:48 | Just going back and comparing the "majority in number" vote against those I offered before as precedents, a 27:94 split (22% against) was a relatively good performance from the "no" camp. In terms of total shareholders (on the register) voting, the 27+94 adds to 121, but a note on the RNS suggests that 11 of those were double-counted i.e. where a nominee (HL, II, Barclays etc) voted some shares for and some shares against it looks like they may have counted that shareholder on both sides of the "majority in number" vote, effectively cancelling them out. If you remove these 11 from both sides then the vote would have been 16:83, i.e. just 16 shareholders on the register voted their whole (voted) shareholding against. -------------------- 1gw 11 Oct '24 - 18:49 - 59881 of 60038 If you're in a group of 100's of retail shareholders who are all on the register in their own names then that's impressive. I look forward to seeing the confirmation that 100's of shareholders have in fact voted against the offer. I would have thought you were in quite a strong position if that's really true. Looking for results of other "majority in number" votes I came across: i3 Energy / Gran Tierra Energy got 60 votes for and 18 against. Virgin Money / Nationwide got 393 for and 51 against And going back a bit for a bigger turnout: Home Retail Group / Sainsbury got 1955 for and 72 against ...and for a particularly relevant one, perhaps: Acacia / Barrick Gold got 153 for and 9 against. | 1gw
30/10/2024 09:42 | NEM is tempting, as is Barrick. You might want to wait and see what AEM's results look like after hours today, just in case it does a NEM and presents a similar buying opportunity.Anyone still calculating what CEY's price should be in terms of the offer against what it actually is? | arlington chetwynd talbott
30/10/2024 09:24 | Aria, hope you enjoy todays budget | rotrader
30/10/2024 09:05 | Zang, I'll be dumping CEY too but more because I'm not interested in Anglogold - Don't have an issue with NYSE/US stocks as my porty is weighted 50/50 currently - UK & US More a fan of AEM, and Barrick. Tempted to nibble NEM on the recent disappointing results and stock pullback. | geckotheglorious
30/10/2024 09:02 | I'll be dumping my remaining CEY (about 1/4 of my long-term holding). I can't be bothered getting into NYSE stocks for a meh company like Anglogold. | zangdook
30/10/2024 08:40 | What price centamin then at 40 dollars | tnt99
30/10/2024 08:37 | Gold price got to be good for Anglo with interest rates coming down and gold prices going up and production increasing perfect storm to 40 dollars me thinks | tnt99
30/10/2024 08:37 | Happy to be proved wrong though! | arlington chetwynd talbott
30/10/2024 07:46 | You would think, but I cannot help feeling that whatever PoG does AU will not rise sufficiently (not while CEY is still trading anyway) to give those of us not wanting to hold AU a fair exit price. | arlington chetwynd talbott
30/10/2024 07:33 | The way the price of gold is rising it will not matter which share we have, in fact Anglo may be better as their borrowings give us some leverage. | harry_david
29/10/2024 17:53 | zangdook Post 60024 only 27 registered holders voted no. you're well-named, larry I'm one of the 27 and I've no idea who Larry is. | geckotheglorious
