High street carpet giant Carpetright has revealed it could cut jobs and close stores as it considers the possibility of insolvency.

Carpetright continues to suffer hefty share losses after it emerged the embattled flooring firm was considering a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) that would allow it to jettison loss-making stores.

Because of what is happening in the retail sector, it's going to have a knock of effect with the REIT's and Property companies as they'll be getting less rent.

Typical Hammerson, their take over is being done right at the top of the market.

All this is typical of late market cycle action, showing we're near the end of the Bull market.

Shares in Carpetright have plunged on reports the struggling retailer may close stores and axe jobs as it pieces together a rescue plan.

The Press Association understands the group could go down the route of a company voluntary arrangement, which would allow to it to shut loss-making stores and secure deep discounts on rental costs.

A spokesman for Carpetright said: “As announced on March 1 we are examining a range of options to accelerate the turnaround of the business and strengthen its balance sheet.

“This process is ongoing and the group will update the market on these initiatives as required.”
