Does anyone recall what the mcap was before covid? as in late January? With all the dilution am just wandering whether mcap is undervalued now or just about right. Cheers otherwise I'll to resort to the calculations etc.

Agreed, and P&O is but a small part of the Carnival corporation. The cash cow will return one day, albeit with a large debt burden to service. The CEO was interviewed on Bloomberg last night and he seemed pretty relaxed about it all. I think there is volatility ahead for a good while yet, and therefore trading opportunities, but those who buy and hold at these levels will do OK in the long run.

it is fine ..

Cruising comes back.

Meanwhile, you are getting a share of this fantastic company at a valuation that is only 25% above 2019's profits. Yes you read right market cap not far off the 2019 profits figure.

If this was a house you could buy it for a little over one year's rental profits. That is one cheap house!

market cap in dollars 3.72 billion
2019 profits in dollars 3.06 billion

I read today P&O cruises cancelled until October . That's a long time away and yet the share price goes from strength to strength. Billions in costs and no income. This rise in the share is unsustainable.

Mister MD

That has been my strategy. I have about a dozen vaccine benefitting large stocks like this. And as you say this has been a profitable undertaking thus far.

Invested here at just over 1100p, now up 50% (likewise with Shell). Picking up out-of-favour mega-cap stocks has been quite profitable, hopefully the trend continues as economies open up whilst the world gets vaccinated. Now waiting for Glaxosmithkline to 'wake up' too .... ;-)

The City is full of clever people spending too much time poring over charts and results statements trying to find any little inefficiency in the stock market that can give them an edge. Analysts at Peel Hunt reckon that they have found one: Carnival, the owner of P&O Cruises.
The stock is dual-listed, meaning that it is traded in London and New York. To all intents and purposes, an American Carnival share and a British Carnival share are the same: “economically identical”, as Ivor Jones, a leisure analyst at the brokerage put it.

There is one important difference though — the cost. For much of the past decade, the London-listed Carnival shares traded at a slight premium to their American cousins. “More recently, however, the UK shares have been trading at a material discount to the US shares and, while some of that gap has closed, they remain 14 per cent cheaper than the US shares,” Jones said.
That is an “unusually large” difference and the “icing on an attractive investment case”, added Jones, as he urged clients to “buy” the stock. As the world’s biggest cruise ship operator, Carnival would appear an obvious way to play the grand reopening this summer but Jones insists that it has been “overlooked221; so far by investors. From the Times the other morning and kind of explains what people have been discussing ref the price difference between the nyse and lse pricings

Israel barely seeing 2,000 new cases day and just 10 or so deaths a day.
UK new cases have dropped from 60,000 to 6,000.
US similar drop.
No justification for extending this lockdown and heaping more economic ruin on businesses and taxpayers.

Deaths 100

The public will demand reopening within weeks if this continues.
No justification for keeping things shut if cases drop to the hundreds or 1-2K only with deaths <100

US regulators have formally approved the single-shot Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine, the third jab to be authorised in the country.

The vaccine is set to be a cost-effective alternative to the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, and can be stored in a refrigerator instead of a freezer.

Trials found it prevented serious illness but was 66% effective overall when moderate cases were included.

The vaccine is made by the Belgian firm Janssen.

The company has agreed to provide the US with 100 million doses by the end of June. The first doses could be available to the US public as early as next week.

The UK, EU and Canada have also ordered doses.

Queen says Covid vaccine 'didn't hurt at all'
The Queen has urged people to get a Covid vaccine when they are offered one, saying hers "didn't hurt at all".

The monarch, 94, and the Duke of Edinburgh, 99, received their first doses of the vaccine in January.

In a video call with health leaders delivering the Covid vaccine across the UK, the Queen was asked about her experience of having the jab.

She smiled as she replied: "Well, as far as I can make out it was quite harmless.

"It was very quick, and I've had lots of letters from people who've been very surprised by how easy it was to get the vaccine."

"It didn't hurt at all," the Queen said, adding that she has since felt "protected".

Value trade getting a bit over its head. Airlines and Cruise lines should be trading at a much greater discount to their pre pandemic levels considering their massive capital structure changes, cash burn, and lack of revenue. Re-opening going to be much slower than expected IMO

Dell proving IT and data collection.

Breath test from Deepverge DVRG is antigen testing with a means to confirm from the time the test is scanned, matching the QR Code of the test chip to your phone, so that the chip, when scanned will verify via the AI servers that it is positive or negative. Now, if it is negative your tests are sent to your phone with a date/time stamp, verified by a block chain encrypted secure independent third party server. Your Digitial Health Pass cannot be copied as it is unique to your phone IMEI Number and the result is stamped at the time and date the test took place.
You now have a unique QR Code that is encrypted to only match your phone and the code of the test, plus the date and time stamp of the test. To verify that your Digital Health Pass is valid, anyone with a QR Code app (free in any app store) can scan your QR Code and take just one second to confirm that you have a negative result, number of hours since you had your test and remaining hours recommended to the next test. In effect it is a digital solution that allows the entire economy to open up with everyone having access to a means of verifying that the person walking through the door of a pub, hospital, nightclub, security entry in an airport, football stadium, concert arena, music festival, conference hall, cruise ship getting on and off at different ports are free from the virus.
