They can't have deaths on there mind the vast majority of the working population will survive this by isolation and social distancing in a healthcare setting you can't socially distance it's the elderly and infirm that die and the nurses and care workers that are subjected to such high exposure that die

What a good idea. Vaccinate the elderly and infirm before vaccinating the one who’s taxes pay for a large percentage of their welfare. And I say that with 3 relatives in mind who recognise the stupidity of the PC approach. On current plans, the last to be vaccinated are the working population.

Interesting view, visited Ringstead Bay back in July, Queen Vic, Queen Mary and several large P&O ships. Wonder what it is like for crew on board, they must be fed up with the sight, but Dorset and Isle of Portland good views to observe.

when the pro's tell you to sell that is often a good time to look to buy. They are looking to stock up in view of vaccine and reduced covid issues. Look forward, may not be the time yet, but it's coming....

(7:35 p.m. BST) -- Portsmouth port has welcomed its first cruise ship in the COVID-19 era, as SeaDream Yacht Club's 112-passenger SeaDream I called on the city on Monday as part of its transatlantic crossing to Barbados.
A total of 19 passengers embarked in Portsmouth after adhering to strict health and safety protocols, including obtaining a COVID-19 PCR test no less than 72 hours in advance going through rapid COVID testing again before embarking the vessel. SeaDream has also rolled out extensive cleaning and sanitization measures, as well as physical distancing practices
In a statement provided by Portsmouth City Council, the Port notes that no passengers already onboard were allowed ashore in Portsmouth, and only the 19 ticketed passengers were embarked.
All port operations followed the UK's recent Cruise Framework Agreement for vessels and the entire call was overseen by local health authorities and Portsmouth International Port staff.

Portsmouth International Port is the first port in the UK to install a thermal imaging camera, and the first to have received independent verification for COVID-19 health and safety measures by international auditor and classification society DNV-GL. DNV-GL also provides COVID-19 certification for cruise ships.
SeaDream I is in the midst of a 21-day crossing to Bridgetown, Barbados to start the line's newly-announced Caribbean cruises. The ship had previously embarked passengers in both Oslo, Norway and Rotterdam, Netherlands.
SeaDream I is scheduled to make one additional stop, in Funchal, Madeira, on October 24 before proceeding to Bridgetown. The ship's first Caribbean voyage departs roundtrip Bridgetown on November 7, 2020.
The sailing is the first transatlantic crossing to resume since the global COVID-19 pandemic shut down cruises in March.

Do we get excited?

a) will people go cruising? If US Republican, probably. If intellectually on a par with a donkey, possibly. What each of us wishes on those supporters of Trump who cram into a cruise boat is, perhaps, best kept between us and our God

b) many passengers will be deferrals from 2020 so not new money
b.1) and how do they get to the sailing port? (see e))

c) you wouldn't get me on a cruise boat full stop until here is a proven vaccine but there are still many of the cranially challenged who will bag a bargain. Which translates into small new money and All Inc packages won't boost bar takings wildly.

d) as with the 737 Max; One, just one teeny weeny death and you are thee proud owner of (electronic) toilet paper and a tax loss.

e) maybe Carnival should buy a stupendously cheap fleet of 737 - 8000s as I believe Ryan air will designate the flying coffins now the EU have said they are airworthy

(2:20 p.m. EDT) -- A potential restart of cruise operations announcement that may be forthcoming as early as next week, pending approval from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), said Vicki Freed, SVP Sales, Trade Support and Service with Royal Caribbean.
Freed, who made the comments during her weekly Coffee Chat with travel advisors on Wednesday, indicated that the health and safety protocols developed by Royal Caribbean's Healthy Sail Panel were implemented and ready to go but cautioned that the announcement could be further postponed, "If we don't hear back this week from the CDC."

Currently, the CDC's "No-Sail" order is in effect through October 31. Royal Caribbean has cancelled all U.S. departures through November 30, 2020.
Freed did not provide any additional details, and did not speculate which ships, itineraries or homeports would return first, or when that might take place.
Other Royal Caribbean executives joining the Coffee Chat did, however, drop hints about some new potential itineraries.
Mexican Riviera, Overnight Port Stays in Europe

When responding to a travel agent query about when Royal Caribbean might resume cruises to the Mexican Riviera on the Pacific coast, Joshua Carroll, Royal Caribbean's VP Port Development, said that as Royal Caribbean's Alaska deployment continues to expand, additional winter destinations are being sought out on the West Coast.
"We're growing dramatically in Alaska," he said. "We're looking at a number of different options for the winter and we think that pretty soon we may have something exciting to announce."

Royal Caribbean has not offered Mexican Riviera cruises since January 2011, when Mariner of the Seas was pulled off the weeklong runs from San Pedro (Los Angeles), California.
Carroll also spoke about the possibility of increased overnight stays being added to itineraries.
"Yes," Carroll said, in response to a travel agent's question. " Will see more overnights, especially in places like Europe."
Barcelona Port
Carrol pointed out that overnight calls allow passengers to travel further afar and take in more of the sights available to cruisers, particularly in Europe where there are any number of tourist attractions within a relatively small geographical area.
It was not mentioned whether these overnight stays would be added to existing itineraries or to itineraries released moving forward.

Brittany Briggs, Royal Caribbean's director, revenue strategy, said that cruisers awaiting new itineraries may not have to wait all that long.
Itineraries for future years, "typically open in November-December and again in the spring," said Briggs. She noted that itineraries for the 2022-2023 cruise season may be just around the corner and stated that an announcement will likely be made in November to release these voyages.
Asked about additional itineraries out of Vancouver, British Columbia, Carroll said that Royal Caribbean is actively looking at several non-Alaska options for sailings from Vancouver, including the Pacific Northwest.
He noted, however, that offering Vancouver-Hawaii sailings posed some challenges for the line's newest vessels, which are only able to dock in certain ports of call due to their size. Royal Caribbean typically sends one of its smaller Radiance Class vessels on a handful of repositioning voyages to and from Vancouver to Hawaii.

Cruises to start from selected places, ok local areas but it's a start.

1. I expect Trump to make a major announcement on vaccines in the next 7 days or so.
2. Pfizer Phase 3 data is due within the next 14 days also and CEO is very confident of approval.
3. News released today that the NHS is being told to prepare mass vaccination from December.

Vaccine will almost certainly have to be fast tracked as the alternative is far too costly in every way.
