It'd be good to broach the 70p level again.

Wax,

That's been my experience and I think previously Doris said that had been the case - let's hope that his/her recent experience was a one-off.

I totally disagree,

always great food, service and value and I frequent many different of their establishments with many international clients who are also always impressed.

and lets face it debt free they are a steal at this price.

Doris,

I'm saddened to hear that. Did you raise it with the management?

I have been watching this for some time as a potential purchase as I eat in their restaurants once or twice a month and the food has always been good, but now that food quality has gone down. I was in with six friends last night and we all agreed none of us would go back.... they have tried to cut costs in the wrong place. Such a shame as the food was really good quality.
Now totally off my watch list.

Currently above the most recent ascending high - real progress if we can close above that level.

Very solid TS - interesting to know whether the 14% rise was LFL.

not sure if it will translate into higher profits though as they import Euro denominated goods, staff wages are up a lot due to minimum wage hikes and the fact the fact restaurants can't nab the tips, and store opening costs etc etc...

we shall see... interesting they don't actually mention profits in teh trading update....

The secret is in the quality and value of their food and service.

hard to imagine this chain is doing well......it would be like a storm which leaves one tree standing......why would that happen? I have noticed that most co's talk up the prospects as if they could read the future....my rule of thumb, is look at what was being said a year ago and see if they were right, also to look and see what directors last paid for their shares and compare with todays price....then apply some common sense and sell!

Director disposal never good news - claims personal reasons, but bound to have an adverse effect. Shame.

TS appears cautiously upbeat. It's unclear whether the growth is LFL or outright - it'll be interesting to see clarification on that matter.

Otherwise, happy to hold.

Well that certainly was the order of the day pre credit-crunch. Obviously, since then Mkt valuation has understandably (to a degree) declined in recognition of likely pressures on volume as discretionary spending reduces for one or other reason. As we know, there a number of factors in Carluccios favour

a) Great brand name and quality product/service.
b) Debt-free.
c) Continued self-financing expansion.
d) Significant parallel marketing in-store opportunities.

On the down-side there are pressures on wages and business will have to be won.

Overall however, given their relative autonomy and lack of debt-burden, they are well positioned to cleverly market their products and tailor prices to optimise demand.

Agreed. Valuations in this sector have always been cyclical. May take 12 - 18 months but i think a fair value for going private is circa £1.50+ ps - Only time will tell!

B3,

for me the most reassuring event of recent times was the willingness of Frank B to splash out on a load more shares - always a good sign when the CFO puts his hand in pocket.

One to watch....potential for Mr Carluccio to get involved again....very solid offering....always very busy.....average spend per head under £12....decent profits....steady roll out program.....no debt!.....proven management team....no bum sites.....still delivering new sites on time and on budget! LOL at the analysts who two years ago complained that the roll out program wasn't big or fast enough.....hare and the tortoise eh? Private equity take probably inevitable...
