My understanding is that Jaguar Land Rover have split the UK into area's and in each area the ownership of all dealerships have to be the same company. So some companies have been forced sellers ie Caffyns whilst others have picked up franchises. Should improve margins as local competition is reduced.

They seem to be chopping and changing their Land Rover Jag dealerships "in line with the strategy of the Group and Jaguar Land Rover". Exeter, Croydon, South Woodford etc.

Can someone briefly explain please! Ta.

SMMT figures for June 2016 have been issued this morning showing 255,766 new cars were registered for June, completing the highest ever first 6 months total in 2016 of 1,420,636.
In isolation, June is only 0.8% down on June 2015. Chief Exec of SMMT commented
"It is far too soon to determine whether the referendum result has had an impact on the new car market. The first six months saw strong demand at record levels but the market undoubtedly cooled over the second quarter. It’s important government takes every measure to restore business and economic confidence to avoid the market contracting in the coming months."

IMO, it's fairly obvious the new car numbers will begin to recede at least in the short term, but there is a massive bank of aftersales business built up to sustain dealers. And even though Junes numbers of 255,766 are slightly down on 2015, to put in context, June 2014 was 228,291.

Recovering nicely after seemingly unwarranted fall......looking forward to return to over 80p short term and then exceeding its record high which IMO is certainly justified.

Vaneric,

The point is more cars have been sold than between 'last Easter and Whitsun'!

There's an old motor trade saying: "If you can't sell cars between Easter and Whitsun you've no chance of ever making a living selling cars."

In this longer term low interest rate environment, it is slowly dawning on people that they can lease cars very cheaply. This is supporting the new car sales as never before. While the non stop propaganda of the in/out campaigns drives us crazy, we are busy upgrading our wheels.

SMMT released their new car registration figures for the month of May this morning:
New car market increased 2.5% in May. 203,585 vehicles registered.
May’s highest total since 2002.
YTD 1,164,870 cars have now been registered in 2016, 4.1% ahead of last year.

So the motor retail sector seems to be largely unaffected by the "emissions scandal" and brexit.

LOOK issued a positive QI trading update this morning which confirms the strength in the sector reported by VTU and of course CAMB in the first period.

Look share price has increased on the back of the update, could see some interest towards CAMB today with the sector being in focus once again.

Glaws,

It is because I expect them to make £1.8m exceptional profit in 2016 through goodwill on divestments. Underlying profit for 2016 will be £10.2m, per my projections.

Hi EC - just been looking at your forecasts - for 2017 you are showing little increase in profit - indeed a reduction in EPS on increasing revenue. Singer forecasts show increasing profits. I suspect the difference is due to capital expenditure on redeveloping Swindon & Barnet - but could you clarify please ?

Thanks - Glaws

Molotov, i think on the back of today's Vertu results as well you won't be far off the mark. May get held back a bit by referendum concerns, but all looks pretty solid.
