So, they propose to wind it up and anticipate a return of approx 57p per share. I'm happy with the plan, not sure why it needs to take 24 months though.

Can't imagine anyone will vote against it but let's see. The 10% rise in the share price today indicates the market approves too.

Review is due "in any event no later than 30th November 2012" so three weeks away max.

Recent NAV showed a small turndown, but still trading at a near 40% discount to NAV.

If they don't come up with something that closes the NAV gap we will be back into a requisitioned EGM, and the independent committee will surely be both aware of that and seeking to avoid it.

I have taken the opportunity to add to my holding at these levels in recent weeks. Hoping for a clean 2012 exit route, but more likely it will be phased to avoid a fire sale.

All imho

I bloody well hope we get a positive response to this strategic review that is underway, TREE has underperformed its peers and its time for some good news here...

jonwig, thanks. I notice lumber prices in the USA up 20% ytd. Presume if company survives as is, a divi cut will be part of the strategic review. Agree - it's day will come.

Ptolemy - TREE is observing AIC Best Practice:

https://www.atstaction.co.uk/AICCodeofCorporateGovernance2010.pdf

Separation of managers and BoD is part of this, hence non-exec status.

Whether Cogent are the main culprits, or whether the capital structure of the fund (debt) weighs down performance I can't say. I do know that forestry hasn't been a performing asset for the past four years.

(No position, but interested in the sector - its day will come.)

Does this boil down to a disagreement between McGrady and the board?

In aggregate the ID hold a minuscule number of shares.

Rather unusual that the company doesn't have any executive directors.

Perhaps they need to look at the corporate structure rather, rather than just replacing the investment manager.

lionheart - the ETF, "WOOD" has performed very well this year. Sadly, I sold it much too early.

If timber as an asset improves, I think TREE will be taken over, providing you with a decent price exit.

Not too happy with 23rd Jan interim statement. Nav per share down to 0.71. I still believe in timber as a fantastic commodity, but do wonder if cambium will ever turn a profit... Even if thy maintain the divi

Please excuse the leg pull but isn't it unusual that zoos only have one giraffe but a quantity of elephants

Radio 4 had an article about hazel and they mentioned that the Chinese are the largest buyer of British Hazelnuts!

Some Zoo's buy the leaves and branches to feed their elephants and giraffe!

Sorry, I can't answer the hazel question.

I am growing the willow for fuel, I own the land but they don't take too much space, I'll answer the other part of the qestion when I cut them down, about 5 years from now...

Impressive growth.

Hazel questions: What are Hazel like in comparison? Speed of growth? Market rate?

Willow Questions: Where can you sell them? Do you own the land they are on? Do they cost much to harvest?

lionheart ... it's listed on the Channel Islands Stock Exchange, which is a recognised exchange for ISA purposes.

This looks to be ready for another upswing, so good luck.

So I bought a few today, been looking at this sector for ages. Rather surprised I was allowed to buy in my ISA though... AIM listed, but as a 'fund' is that the reason they let me?

Hi Jonwig,
It felt for me that investing in wood / forests would be a no brainer in this carbon off-setting world ! sadly not that easy.

Regards.

Yes, I followed that story, but won't visit it with cash!

Incidentally, I did buy some PTF (despite the higher mgt charges than TREE), though I might miss some corporate action here.

tenapen - PTF might actually be a better proposition now than TREE. NAV of $1.11 against share price of $0.80.

Anyway, I sold my TREE at the end of last week. I'll look more closely at PTF over the (very long) weekend.
