There is very little evidence that getting out when I did - immediately the Malta money arrived - was not the right thing to do. I have no idea why they remain on the market and while they talk and seem an old fashioned lot with a good work ethic the treatment of the shareholders and the way they mislead on what they would do with the cash from Malta suggest otherwise - totally uninvestable as you say because even if they do well there is no sense that the non family shareholders will see any benefit. Very shoddy indeed and glad my 12 year involvement in over

Results out today..no dividend but Charles Bailey has bumped his remuneration up from 145k to 385k so I guess he doesn't need a dividend as he's taking the cash out of the front door...uninvestable

Hardly supports the "Transparency Directive", which the rest of us must adhere to, when jobbers are permitted to mark a large price-moving trade on the minor "Plus Market" as opposed to the main LSE.

Large sell of 13450 shares at 116p when the bid price was 125p. Shows how illiquid this one is.

I can't help looking in here to see how my old mates are doing. I sold on the Malta cash receipt and I still don't see any desire to get that "hidden value" out to shareholders - we all waitd years for the Malta value to come out and when it did what did they do - they bought a load of other Malta property that might or might not be good buys. I can see the asset valu is attractive but you have to feel you will get it in a reasonable time frame to buy evne at this price

But why is it tucked away - shouldn't this be stated in the balance sheet?

The small print within today's rns suggests that this thread's ancient title may yet be triggered !

First time for donkeys years I've felt even slightly optimistic.

I've a vague recollection that a controlling shareholder can buy up to 1% a year. But I may be wrong.

I was tempted by these last week because:-

a) The new exec appt
b) My wife is from Newport.

I realised however that these were not particularly good reasons, especially b).

The bear points are not hard to enumerate.

Take this, for example, regarding their somewhat incongruous heavy engineering division:-

"We have seen some success in attracting business from new markets but the steel industry has been badly affected by cheap imported steel and high energy costs, which has led to much reduced levels of work sent out for repair. However, we are hopeful that this is a short term issue and we are cautiously optimistic for the future of this division."

It doesn't seem like an oversupply of steel is a short term issue to me?

This is a strange business (although I find it curiously interesting).

Harrowgate you are so right - I sold some and then bought in on the new exec appointment thinking that they would advance to some serious economic strategy with all the cash and assets they have -instead of which small minded investment nonsense (in my and your view). Again I am stuck with them - you were wise - this clean cash rich company is going just where the share price (market hahha!!) has gone to

I agree , I had these on my watch list but my major concern was that it was more a lifestyle business for directors , buying into SA strikes me as a bizarre move , and confirmation that they don't feel the need to keep non insiders informed as to what their plans are. Shares are horribly illiquid as well.

I had begun to think I had done the wrong thing selling straight after the sale and missing out on the special dividend and the exciting new plans with the new board but I see they are still addicted to buying a ragbag of assets in strange disparate places with no commercial plan. Shame as they have thrown away the one chance of creating real value in my view - I see also that they didn't fell they needed to tell the shareholders through the year what they were buying but saved up all the news for the results - very shoddy I think and no sign of the new baileys here - I will try to make sure I am not tempted back whatever the share price does as it could be a very long haul now with no golden goose - in fact it could be never

Looks like a few buyers today have noticed the non exec appointment. One of them had to pay a premium for a relatively small amount of stock. If more buyers come in next week then this could very soon test 200 again !

Surprised that nobody has commented on today´s Non Exec appointment. He has an interesting track record, and is very young. Cannot imagine that he is there just to claim a quarterly fee.

Below is from the March 2015 accounts:

Change in fixed assets
A summary of the changes in property, plant and equipment is given in note 13 to the accounts.
A summary of the changes in investments in subsidiary undertakings is given in note 14 to the accounts.
In the directors’ opinion, the market value of assets reclassified as held for sale net of sale costs is £333,000 and leasehold land and buildings is in excess of £23,000,000. Adjusting the balance sheet at 31 March 2015 for these estimated values would equate to an estimated net asset value of £3.90 per ordinary share (2014: £3.71 per ordinary share).
