Byotrol swings to H1 profit as sales more than treble
7 December 2020 | 09:31am
StockMarketWire.com - Infection prevention and control company Byotrol swung to a first-half profit after sales more than trebled amid a pandemic-led surge in demand.

For the six months ended 30 September 2020, the company reported a pre-tax profit of £959,000 compared with a loss of £624,000 year-on-year as revenue rose to £6.7 million from £2.2 million.

Looking ahead, the company said it expected sales to settle at levels 'significantly higher than pre-COVID, and our order book remains consistently higher now than at any other point in our history.'

All very encouraging and more confirmation that all targets being met.I hope DT does a few interviews as we have found in the past that they seem to give a lot more information than any text from the company.
Tristel back to all time highs this morning and Byotrol's massive discount to their peers valuation should hopefully be the focus for any prospective investor.

finnCap note is out. No change to FY21 forecasts, no FY22 forecast, but they start putting some numbers on Actizone - implied royatly/commission rate and potential (staggering) valuation of royalty stream.

No mention at all of Move Clean / Turtle Wax retail launch - which suggests to me byotrol didn't (and perhaps still don't) have much visibility on this.

Exciting times ahead (to quote finnCap).

It looks like the text must have been signed off before any details could be included, or even mention made, of the Turtle Wax retail launch. I am surprised there isn't even a mention of Move Clean in there. Maybe we will hear something in the next interviews DT does.

Licence revenue of £0.6m is good (and compares favourably with the finnCap estimate of £0.65m for the full year) but I admit to being a bit underwhelmed given the comments on "material minimum guaranteed payments" in the 10-year IRI agreement and "meaningful minimum guarantee payments to Byotrol each year" in the Tristel agreement [edit: Tristel minimum guaranteed payments will have been booked in FY20 I think, but I took the "each year" as a template for the IRI and SC Johnson deals]. Having said that in the text they talk about fixed payments being made typically over 3 to 5 years, so perhaps the guaranteed payments do not extend as far as I had assumed from the contract durations. Also, it has to be said that there's a lot of wiggle room on discount rate and adjustment for continuning obligations - so that any given set of minimum guaranteed payments can result in a wide range of NPVs (and hence booked initial period revenue) depending on what discount rate and adjustments are applied.

I note they seem to be playing up the seaweed potential more and more, so this looks like it is another material area of upside "optionality" in the business.

Bottom line 0.23p eps (0.22p diluted) for the half-year looks very good.

I can't find the finnCap research portal this morning so haven't seen any updated estimates for the year, but clearly those are going to be important given the lack of specific guidance in the interims.
[edit: can now get into the research portal, but can't yet see a morning or company note for today]

Yes puts us on a Pe of around 12 which I would suggest we should see 15% 20% rise with more to follow to get a more aligned sector valuation.
As I’ve mentioned several times it’s the IP revenue stream which is going to grow significantly over the next few years that’s extremely exciting

...and looking good short-term too, with £1.2m EBITDA and almost £1m PBT in just 6 months.

Plus £1.7m net cash and rising.

Solvay has globally launched Actizone 24 hour surface sanitizer, referring to it as a "blockbuster technology".

Plus there's the licensing-out of Byotrol24 surface sanitizer to Integrated Resources Inc. in the US - expected to provide significant returns to Byotrol for minimal ongoing US costs

And the outlook is very confident:

"Market demand for our products remains high and we continue to expect future demand to settle substantially above pre-COVID levels. The outlook for our industry is highly positive and Byotrol's positioning within it remains very strong.

John Langlands, non-executive Chairman of Byotrol commented:

"This was a very strong first half performance. The business has delivered sustainable profits, benefitting from our long term strategy and of course the significant demand for our infection control products arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. Our employees all delivered under very difficult circumstances as we faced restrictions in movement and shortages in raw materials.

Byotrol remains extremely well positioned to benefit from the long term demand for infection control products both during and following the pandemic "

So the deal is via IRI LLC which covers the Americas.

From 1GW we know India is on the cards so maybe we have managed a ROW deal with Turtle Wax?

I've reposted our IRI agreement.

14 May 2020

Byotrol plc ("Byotrol" or the "Group")

License Agreements and Update on Trading

Byotrol plc (AIM:BYOT), the specialist infection prevention and control technology company, is pleased to announce two new license agreements and confirmation of continued strong trading.

New License Agreement in the USA with Integrated Resources International LLC

We are pleased to announce that we have agreed a technology license over Byotrol24, our EPA registered long-lasting germ kill sanitiser spray, with a consortium of investors and experienced market professionals under the umbrella of Integrated Resources International LLC, based in Tennessee ("IRI").

The license is 10 years in term and gives exclusive rights over Byotrol 24 and patents that support it in the Americas, subject to certain clawback rights. In return for those rights, IRI has paid to Byotrol an initial license fee of US$250k and will pay a quarterly royalty payment based on product sales (with material minimum annual guaranteed payments) thereafter.

The team behind Integrated Resources is already well-known to the Group, including via its sister company Advanced Hygienics LLC, which is currently licensing a Byotrol formulation of hand sanitisers in the USA. This new agreement immediately injects additional resources and expertise into the sales and marketing effort for Byotrol24, without losing ownership of the brand and the technology. Subsequent to this deal, Byotrol will no longer incur material costs in the US.

CHICAGO, Dec. 4, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Turtle Wax today announced it has signed a long-term licensing agreement with Integrated Resources International LLC for Byotrol24™, an EPA-registered cleaner and disinfectant with 24-hour surface sanitizing action that disinfects over 99.9% of germs including cold and flu viruses, 2009-H1N1 Influenza A virus, Respiratory Syncytial virus, Coronavirus, Rotavirus and Norovirus.

Turtle Wax has leveraged the Byotrol24™ technology to create its new Multi-Purpose Cleaner & Disinfectant spray to provide a safe way to not only clean, but also sanitize a car's interior for a full 24 hours without damaging its surfaces. With this game-changing solution, Turtle Wax is able to meet the ever-changing needs and concerns of consumers.

"After touching hundreds of surfaces each day, drivers and passengers unknowingly track germs into their vehicles putting their collective health at risk. Through our partnership with Byotrol24™, we are able to fight back against these unwanted germs with the introduction of Turtle Wax® Multi-Purpose Cleaner & Disinfectant," said Laurie King, chief operating officer, Turtle Wax. "For more than 75 years, we have prided ourselves on providing drivers with innovative solutions to care for their vehicles both inside and out. In addition to sanitizing and disinfecting, this product is safe for use on interior car surfaces, from touchscreens to the steering wheel, but still provides the cleaning power customers expect from us."

Drivers on the Road More, But Cleaning Interiors Incorrectly
Turtle Wax recently conducted a survey amongst U.S. drivers to understand the shift in driving and interior car cleaning habits amid COVID-19. While there is heightened concern around keeping the interior surfaces of their car clean, many drivers have not increased the number of times they clean their car nor use the right products to kill germs, leaving drivers and passengers susceptible to illness. Key findings from this survey include:

More Time on the Road: 65 percent are using their cars almost every day.
Car Cleanliness Concerns: 47 percent are more concerned with cleaning the interior of their car(s) today than before COVID-19. This number increases to 73 percent among those who are driving more frequently now than prior to COVID-19.
Being Prepared: 63 percent feel it is now important to bring car cleaning products in the car in the midst of COVID-19.
Cleaning Less: 59 percent are cleaning their car's interior about the same or less frequently than before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Choosing the Wrong Solution: 52 percent think household wipes are effective to clean their car's interior, but household wipes are ineffective in eliminating germs and could harm the car's interior surfaces.
The Solution: Turtle Wax® Multi-Purpose Cleaner & Disinfectant
With holiday travel around the corner, Turtle Wax® Multi-Purpose Cleaner & Disinfectant is a worry-free safeguard against germs in your car while on the go. It also keeps surfaces sanitized for a full 24 hours with only one application of its scientifically proven, long-lasting cleaning formula. Turtle Wax® Multi-Purpose Cleaner & Disinfectant removes dirt, stains and odors, prevents mold and mildew for seven days, and does not discolor auto interiors as it contains no bleach or alcohol. Additionally, this new Multi-Purpose Cleaner & Disinfectant spray is non-corrosive, has no harsh chemical smell and can be used without gloves.

"We are thrilled to be working with a fantastic partner like Turtle Wax who can bring our germ-killing technology into the automotive segment," said Mark Robertson, president, Integrated Resources International LLC. "Germs are everywhere, and we don't often consider the infection risk when stepping into our own vehicles. Together, we can provide drivers with the peace of mind knowing that they are now protected."

Turtle Wax® Multi-Purpose Cleaner & Disinfectant is available for purchase nationwide at Walmart.com and at select Walmart locations. More information on Turtle Wax® Multi-Purpose Cleaner & Disinfectant can be found on www.turtlewax.com and additional details on the germ-fighting technology from Byotrol24™ can be found by visiting www.byotrol24.com.

"The publicity that byotrol24 is getting from this launch must augur well for sales of byotrol24 itself through the website, and also it must make it easier to place byotrol24 into retailers,"

It's a trial, just like the trial at Target. It will be months before anyone knows if the trial is successful. The trial at Target went on for nearly 2yrs and came to nothing.

As with the Target trial, I expect there'll be free samples. The success or otherwise of the trial will depend on repeat orders.

H1 results due soon, best wait to see how the company has performed during peak of the Pandemic and whether record orders have now returned, especially now the vaccine is to be rolled out.

"Move Clean solutions are piloting in select markets in the US and will be available through key transportation partners, including participating Shell gas stations in the coming months. For more information on Move Clean and its products and partners, please visit www.moveclean.co. "

I think it's probably a communication [hopefully not a supply chain] breakdown between Turtle Wax and Walmart! Still no price that I can see on the product on the Walmart link and it doesn't seem to be on the Walmart product search system.

It isn't yet available direct from Turtle Wax ("coming soon to www.Turtlewax.com, www.Amazon.com and all your favorite retail stores"), so it's following a different path from the new Hybrid Pro products which are already on Turtlewax.com (with prices and indexed on the full product list).
