Agree it has been a superb investment over the long term & pity no one else came in for the company as it could have achieved 10% or so more. The problem I suspect , for those of us us who have held for the long term is where to invest the proceeds.
i suspect The Dame will spend the rest of her days as a Non exec- & who can blame her.
That said , as a holder of VEC (via SKP )I would be very happy to see her installed there .

Personally for me holding BTG has been financially rewarding and in my opinion would of been more so in the future so I was in for the long term.
But it concerns me when these growing British companies get bought out by foreign companies especially when we are living in these uncertain times.
Now I know there many reasons for people to vote for Brexit and obviously by a very small majority we voted to leave so we must go through with it , but it does annoy me when I here brexiteers talking about how we managed so well before joining the common market with our Great British companies leading the world?!
Well I live down in the south west of England and I will give you a small list of the main employers in the 70s in my region

ICI (fibres). Smiths industries, dowty group,Rolls Royce engines , British aerospace and moving a bit to the east landrover jaguar, British leyland/rover group Now with a little research you will find that all except RR are in foreign hands so can just up sticks and take these great British brands, products, jobs, expertise, intellectual property rights, support service jobs , tax receipts, corporation tax revenue, the list is endless.

I shall be very saddened by the demise of BTG. Over the years with its undulating share price but solid underpinning it was not difficult to make serious money.

Mid year.
The price has come off today as the die-hard optimists hoping for another bidder finally throw in the towel.

Unfortunately the only partner ,even though they only want half the company .Pity an alternative hasn't arisen who wants it all & who will pay a fuller price -not greedy but 900p has a great ring to it ?

I completely agree, but at least we can be content someone wanted the company!
I suspect that when BSX registered their interest, all other potential interested parties would have been given the opportunity to counter offer.
BSX is, in many respects, the optimum partner for BTG.

Still find it rather strange given the array of technology and the fact the new bidder does not want 50 per cent of the company.

That’s it guys, NO OTHER BIDDER for BTG - With the vote at the end of next week, I think it would have come by today at the latest.

From THE TIMES today - “A leading shareholder advisory group has backed a £3.3 billion takeover of BTG by an American rival, but has questioned the board’s handling of the sale process and the role of its financial advisers.

Glass Lewis has recommended that investors back the acquisition of the FTSE 250 pharmaceuticals group by Boston Scientific.

However, it also has complained that BTG “has not publicly provided any substantive information regarding the process that the board followed to arrive at the proposed transaction.

“In particular, the company does not disclose whether it made any meaningful attempts to solicit alternative offers from other potential third-party buyers prior to agreeing to the scheme with Boston Scientific.”

This pretty much seals the deal IMO - no other bidder is likely to emerge now ...
