sorry toon , if you want me to answer you directly then no , i think bt will face more fences to jump over, but i much rather invest in company with pe of 8 then lets say amazon (pe of over 250), look we can all sit and argue , but lets wait and see whats happens over next year,

toon lets not forget this company makes 2 billion earnings pet year , it would be different if i would pay £5 and wait for recovery but i have bought relatively small amount at 202.6 ( small amount because if price go below my average then i will load more), ex divi and new ceo announcement should push share price higher ....

Toon. There are issues which need tackling.
They have cut costs.
They have synergy cost savings from EE merger.
They have put a plan together to sort the pension deficit.
Now growth will come with a new boss, and a refocus on their core business IMO.
It's still at the beginning of the turnaround but I believe decisions are being made which will make this company shine again.

ice - I take it you believe all the issues which drove the share price down are now behind BT and that we can ignore basic fundamentals of the BT Group business?

If they just copied the BT Radianz model then that would be a winner.
BT Radianz provides a platform and connectivity network to many financial institutions. This platform allows many separate market data feeds to all supply the institutions with data. The market data companies pay BT for the connectivity. One pair of BT routers can provide hundreds of different market data feeds over the same physical links, just logically separated for security.
BT receives income from the institutions for the connection provisioning and from the market data company to allow their data feed over it. Winner x2.
Use that model for broadband.
ie connectivity not content!

Changing regulations, growing volumes, new applications and a rich choice of venues demand secure infrastructure solutions that reduce complexity and costs. You need a partner you can trust, globally.

With us, you can:

- access the world’s largest, secure networked financial community connecting customers in more than 50 countries and more than 40 of the most important data centres
- deliver or consume applications to clients and counter-parties across all asset classes
- address your regulatory and security requirements with a trusted partner
- evolve, flex and expand with a supplier whose cloud platform will evolve, flex and expand with you.

Toon. Plus from a business point of view, Cloud services are getting huge and will remove the need for big companies to build or share such large data centres. The end companies can just ask Amazon AWS for 1000's of new processors at the drop of a hat, trying to upgrade your own DC or racks in shared DCs is painful and expensive. (power, rack space, environmental issues, etc)
BT should be working with the end companies and Cloud providers to provision connectivity for the future business data flow models. IMO - Rant over :)

Toon. I was trying to reply about the article but in a woolly way I guess.
To me that article says Amazon, Netflix, etc. are getting more and more popular.
Competing with them for content is a bad fight to pick. IMO.
I can see one of those or Youtube (Google) winning the Premiership rights next time round. But whatever of those 3 win it or increase their contents levels , they still need a transport method to deliver it to their customers. Whether its BT/Plusnet for broadband or EE for mobile. And even if they use another broadband provider, if BT can still get paid for the physical provision of the connectivity then that's good as well.
I would be more interested in providing a broadband/mobile service which had easy integrated access to Amazon and Netflix (and anyone else who want to join in). I think they are starting to do this?
With the money you save from content, drop the price for the service or plough to into more service provision? All IMO.

Wish I had a crystal ball so I could see what the Telecoms/media sector would look like in 5-10 years. Hopefully BT won't be paying out for Sports rights....

Agree hammy.
BT should focus on the network and offer third party content!

Toon. Sky has a USP. Its satellite and channel structure. And with SkyQ very much leaning on broadband as well. Sky spends many billions more on content than BT and I don't think that market is BTs core business?
Sky also rents out the thousands of channels space or owns them and gets advertising income on those.
BT cannot compete with Sky in that area IMO.
And when it comes to a free for all over the internet for a subscription for content, then Amazon and Netflix and many others have very deep pockets.
BT has so many other strengths it should focus on.
Facilitate all of the above connectivity and associated services for broadband and mobile.
There are going to be hundreds of content providers but only a handful of connectivity providers. IMO.
Virgin is a bit different as it has its own private network, so like a mini ground based Sky to a certain extent. But that company will be bought and sold many times as it seems like a good idea to buy but the scale isn't there to rival Sky IMO.

Morning Ham. I read this article earlier this morning, it's headline grabbing for sure but doesn't paint a true picture. What is does not say is how many people who subscribe to Netflix also subscribe to Sky and so on. Sky themselves have admitted many of their customers also subscribe to Netflix or Amazon. I myself have Virgin media but I'm also an Amazon Prime customer. SkyQ is also a far superior product compared to Netflix, Amazon or sadly as I've found out Virgin!

This is why BT should focus on providing the connectivity and services platform and not get involved in a battle for content.
The one thing they could do is to provide a lovely easy to use customer interface software which comes with the broadband. Then let all the other content providers have their own portals on there which are of a uniform layout, to make it easier for users?
