I think these are only down due to the FTSE as whole but low £20s is a slam dunk buy with both hands if it happens again

strong results with high expectations for 2019 and one of the few FTSE companies actually increasing the dividend when it's already around 8% yield. I like the bit increasing the dividend due to confidence on future revenue

Give it time Gabster give it time -):

British American Tobacco grew underlying earnings above its target range last year despite cigarette volumes declining 3.5% as predicted. BAT finance director Ben Stevens also announced his retirement after 30 years with the company.

Well the claim is on the Canadian company and not the group. When BATS lost the original case in 2015 the shares dropped one and a half percent. Even if they lose again on Friday I presume they could appeal to the supreme court which could take years. There is no way the Canadian subsidiary could pay the fines . If its anything like the USA, huge fines from lower courts are drastically reduced on appeal.

"British American Tobacco, up 1.3%. The cigarette and tobacco manufacturing company will find out whether it has successfully appealed against its class action settlement in Quebec on Friday. The judgement, BAT said, will be handed down by the Quebec Court of Appeal at 0900 GMT. The appeal relates to a CAD15.6 billion, about GBP9.1 billion, fine which three companies were ordered to pay in the summer in 2015. The case, running for over a decade before that, was brought by smokers who alleged BAT, as well as Philip Morris International and Japan Tobacco International, had failed to warn them of the risks associated with smoking. Some CAD10.4 billion of the fine was to be paid by BAT, who appealed the order"

One waits with baited breath for Friday

it's possible that gap will close on results at £33 level we got this in 7 days time: 28 February Preliminary announcement for year ended 31 December 2018 where strong numbers should come out and a possible increase in dividend to make up for the dismal performance in Share Price in the past 12 months
