They could very well up the dividend by 10%, which would be welcome. On the other hand, keeping the share price low is very good for buybacks, which will be in our favour later.

BP share price nears key level amid heightened M&A rumours

Adnoc, a major Abu Dhabi company, considered buying BP.

There have been rumours of BP acquisition for many months.

BP is seen as a good and undervalued oil and gas company.

Still, any BP buyer would receive an undervalued company that makes billions of dollars in free cash flow. BP trades at a cheap PE multiple compared to the likes of Exxon and Chevron.

We're down nearly 3 Shell up 16. You can kind of tell that Shell might pick up sticks and cross the pond. It certainly wouldn't surprise me. There's no confidence in BP. Still say they should have searched outside of BP for a new CEO. IMHO

I'm not sure it works like that. I believe it's not even on their book but held in a nominee account. Dividend would probably be paid into it. I'm not 100% on that. Hopefully, someone will come back on that. But one day, hellscream, one day we might get lucky

Last year there were two 10% dividend increases. With MA signalling $3.5bn in buybacks for the next 6 months, unless the oil price takes off, I'm factoring in just one 10% dividend hike over the next 12 months.

From the article below on the dividends being be paid by the 5 major oil companies: -

"BP used its second-quarter results last year to tell shareholders to expect a 10% dividend raise in 2023, well above its initial guidance. The company had promised to raise the dividend by 4% each year and buy back about $4bn of shares, assuming the oil price was about $60 a barrel, but over the previous four quarters BP had repurchased $10bn of shares and increased its dividend by 20%. The handouts were particularly surprising after the company reported a deeper-than-expected profit slump. They were welcomed by investors, amid concern among some about the plans of the former chief executive Bernard Looney to “reimagine” BP as a net zero energy company by 2050."
